The meritorious citation said that Lance Corporal Jacquez was a serviceman of courage and rare self-sacrifice who displayed atall times the most tactful cooperation while aiding the Armed Forces of the Republic of Vietnam to repel the enemy in South Vietnam and Southeast Asia. He died in performance of duty May 11, 1969. The award was made at the Jacquez home in Santaquin by Captain Rex Robinson of Roy, Utah. Lt. Col. Wilford V. Pierce, U.S. Army Retired, has received the Legionof Merit from Col. David R. Lyon, professor of Military Science at Brigham Young University. Lt. Col. Pierce now livesin Orem with his wife and three children. He was given the award for his work as chief planner an director of construction for a new hospital facility in Fort Ord, Calif. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Pierce, also live in Orem.
