There is an old saying that you cannot stop progress, yet each dayin our time moreof our citizenry are asking,“Whatis progress?” And in this age of a greater interest in the natural environment many, many more of us are questioning this old saying as it relates to changes of the environment. A few years ago muchcontroversy arose over plans to build a much improved road in Logan Canyon. There were those whosincerelyfelt that no channel changes should be madein the river and thatspoilage of the scenery should be held to a minimum. Suffice it to say that many design changes were madeafter two years time during which the project became known as the Logan Canyon nan fight, and the unfortunate byproduct of considerable bitterness about the project. Now we have much the samesituation regarding the building of a new road in Provo Canyon. Here growing opposition to the building of a high speed, multiple lane road has become highly controversial, is also beingcalled a fight, and at last reportis giving second thoughts to our highway people about the design plan. So what is progress? Why the lost time and why should any project reach the proportions termed a fight? Thereis a lesson hereforall of us, namely that pre-planning far ahead of any project coupled with public notice and dialogueis the better way to goif we are sincerely interested in the dollar, environmental, or other values. In the meantime, let us give credit to all those who are now standing up to be counted on this and other environmental issues. Our outdoor tomorrowswill be as proportionately pleasant as are our numbers taking enough interest to kiow what is going on and then speak out on the subject at hand. $750,000 will be shown. Morethan 206 travel trailers ,| 2am campers, tent trailers, motor homes and other recreational vehticies wili be displayed in the exhibition and assembly halls, totaling 95,000 sq. ft. Value of the rec-vee exhibits will be in excess of $1 million, says Greenband. Also included in this year’s show will be the largest display of fishing tackle ever assembled in the Rocky Mountains. Located in the 400-f. long Tackle Row, this exhibit will include the latest gear from most of the nation’s leading tackle manufacturers. In addition, showgoers can receive knowledgeable vacation planning advice at many colorful vacation, travel and resort exhibits representing areas from Mexico to Canada. Five outstanding sports acts have been booked for the 1971 show, Greenband notes. They are: The Sensational Leighs, Marvin Fox, Mills. Louise and her Parisian Doves, Loral A. Armstrong and Ladd Lyon and Co. Rounding out the e: will be educational demonstrations by a number of public service groups, casting tanks where anglers can try their skill with rod and reel and receive instruction from experts, the free Sunset Magazine Travel Film Festival and many other special events. ‘The show will open Mar. 17 at 6 P.M. and run from 2 P.M. to 10:30 P.M., Mar. 18 and 19; noon to 10:30 P.M.
