Show WORKING FOR prohibition there Is a powerful influence being brought to bear upon the voters in the towns of garland and tremonton Tre monton by residents living neighbor to them but villo who will not be permitted to vote at the coming election last we k a resolution was published in the garland globe expressing the hope of the people of oe east garland and riverside that both garland and tremonton Tre monton will vote dry on the dinst reasons are set forth why these towns should not harbor saloons and the people of riverside and east garland make a demand upon the voters of the two towns to vote dry for their own benefit as well as tor for the protest ion and benefit which will come to the adjacent precincts and wards the resolution is a follows riverside wants saloons closed monday at the riverside hall the citizens of that town met in mass meeting to discuss the liquor question BI al J richards was chosen chairman of the meeting and E T capener appointed secretary the matter of requesting that garland and tremonton Tre monton oters to take action in closing up the saloons on june was discussed and the following resolution was unanimously nani passed and ordered published resolution at a mass meeting held in the riverside hall riverside utah june 3 5 1911 it was the unanimous sentiment that we ask our friends at garland and tremonton Tre monton who have the rl right ht to vote on en the liquor question to vote against sal saloons and close them up tip wo we feel we have a right to expect you to do away with saloons tor for the following reasons first that we are your neighbors and have done considerable business in your town stores shops and joining with you in your social sports and amusements second wo we tell fell that the inducements held behl by saloons are not alone for your own town people bt bait to your neighboring towns who haie hae no police polica protection third we WA rel fel that if 1 you who have the power to remove these evil temptations and fall to do so on juno june that we will be justified in with alth holding our patronage from your stores blacksmith shops printing offices drug stores machine shops and all other places ot of business and social gather gatherings I 1 SI NJ J RICHARDS chairman 19 T CAPENER secretary on sunday last the people of at thatcher adopted a resolution and a petition signed by sixty three voters and taxpayers in which they ask ash the people of garland tremonton Tre monton mouton and corinne to abolish the saloon on the dinst which will affect the people ot or the western part of the bear river valley as well as the residents of these towns themselves the resolution eso lution and petition are as tol fol lows aws R E S 0 av T I 1 ON 1 whereas an election will bo be held on june 1911 in the various various towns and cities of our fair air state to determine whether or not the liquor traffic shall continue and whereas the people of thatcher are closely connected la in a business way also socially with the incorporated towns and cities of 0 garland tremonton Tre monton and corinne and under such conditions our men and boys are constantly visiting the said towns and whereas where the open saloon is maintained we feel that it is a great temptation and detriment to all who are forced forel L d to come in fix contact with the same and much of our hard earned money is spent in buying intoxicants which cause the degradation ol of our men and boys instead of being used to purchase necessary supplies for the entire family now therefore be it resolved that we as a people use our influence and unceasing efforts to banish the saloon from our midst and do be it further resolved Res resell olied ed that a copy of these resolutions accompanied by a petition to the honorable people of the above mentioned towns be posted in fit every business house in garland tremonton Tre monton and corinne and at fornear the election polls PETITION to the honest just and true electors of the incorporated towns and cities of 0 garland tremonton Tre monton and corinne we the people ot of thatcher humbly petition your honors to use your influence and your vote to stamp out this dreadful liquor traffic which Is ruining our boys and young manhood and causing suffering distress and disgrace in our homes |
