Show A WORTHY PASSES on thursday evening evenin glast last the tired spirit of charles wight sen went to its final rest after many weeks of struggling with mith the angel ot of death during which time his body became so emaciated that there was little left but skin and bone the aged man had been unable tor for many days to swallow solid food but liquids were administered as often as he could take them and in that way his last hours were passed ile he did not suffer pain but the body simply wore out at the end of a long life which had been fraught with much experience of both a pleasant and painful nature charles wight was born in new york state on may 28 ile he received tile the gospel in connection with his parents when but a young man and cime came to utah with his fathers family in 1850 the first home was made on the banks of the jordan river south of bf salt lake city where tile the family resided a number of years in 1856 the family came to brigham whore where they have resided since the wight family has been prominently identified with the up building of this community and charles being the eldest son gave much of his time and means to public work and he was never too busy with his own affairs to go and lend a helping had to his bis neighbors or for the public good ile he was a most unselfish man and those who have known him since coming to this city bear record that he never refused fused to divide his substance with those less fortunate than himself father wight operated one of the first it if not the very first meat markets in this city he also conducted a lumber business and manufactured lath fencing much of the lath fence that wa was at his bis establishment is still doing service in this cliel the he neighboring wards ile he had bad charge of a saw mill back in the hills east of mantua tor for many years and later erect erected electea ea a mill at the foot too of 2 mantua dai sway fi in boac vi which he operated for many jears years after he had reached the zenith oi of his 1 vigor vi gor and had started on the down road financial reverses came that took tooh much of his property and nearly broke his spirit for he was an honest man liberal to a fault and by his liberality he lived his beloved beloved wife was called home some years ago since when brother wight has made its his home with hla his son charles jr and family in an ecclesiastical way he was also prominent when the quorum of seventy was organized in this city elder wight was made one of the presidents in which capacity he labored for many years he was also a ward teacher for a long term two children mrs jacob jensen and mr charles wight a host of grand caldren and a number of great grandchildren survive the deceased impressive funeral services were held on saturday afternoon in the third ward meting house bishop L N stohl in charge the speakers were bishop stohl counselor wm will jeppson patriarchs B E P cordon and W L watkins and 0 N stohl elders A madsen james olsen J D peters bishop wright and bishop blackburn and pres oleen N stohl the musical numbers rendered by the choir were the hymns when first the glorious light of truth resting my father knows and count your blessings the prayers were offered by elders eldera I 1 vm vill horsley and samuel 13 atemon Bate mei respectively th be e floral tributes were profuse aal the spirit of the services was divine |
