Show DEATH OF mos is ce M SQUIRES after years of suffering the last few weeks of which were spent in intense agony the tired spirit of mrs luna nichols squires gave up the struggle and passed peacefully back to the god that gave it last friday evening shortly after 4 mrs squires had nein ne sn taken from her home in idaho to 10 the grooves L D S hospital at silt S lake city just three thre e weeks ago to undergo an operation but a care ul examination convinced the phyll lana ians that her condition was such that an it operation could do no good so it was not performed the cause of death was canter cancer of the intestines from which sirs airs squires had been suffering for a year following the removal of a large tumor during her stay at the hospital no food passed her lips and from the outset the doctors gave no hope wh chatee whatever atee for her recovery so her loved ones lived under a constant strain just waiting for the end mrs squires however was never discouraged although she realized her condition but she did not complain neither worry those around her but she smiled to them when she could not talk and was cheerful to the last the blow falls heavily upon mr 3 I 1 r squires they never had any children of their own but adopted a little girl when she was but a few days old and that little girl has now become a woman and Is married so that sir mr squires la Is all alone lie he and his wife had been more than husband and wife they had been companions and chums chum in very deed sharing each others joys and sorrows and participating in each others anticipations closely knitted together in a bond ot of love and true comradeship comrad ship the parting is thus made the harder mrs squires was the daughter of the late bishop alvin and lucy A ann n nichols and was born in this city in august 1859 after her marriage to mr air C al squires she resided here for a number ot of years then removed to idaho then back to brigham and then back to idaho again but where ever she made her home her influence was felt in the community for good she has been a worker in the various church organizations since her girlhood and was active up to the last she presided over the V Y L M I 1 A at rexburg nex Rex burg idaho for a number of years and also labored in the sunday school and relict society both there and here sho she had a very sunny disposition her motto ever being scatter sunshine and she never complained at her own condition although she had been a sufferer practically all her life her lips never breathed one word ot of complaint truly tho the world was made better by her having lived in it the remains were brought to this city saturday Satu iday evening and impressive funeral services were held in the second ward meeting house sunday at 4 p in the house being filled with sympathizing relatives and friends the services were presided over by bishop blackburn and besides him remarks were made by pres dalby ot of the ricks academy at rexburg Rex burg ida elders nepal anderson of salt lake city J INI jenson pres oleen N N stohl and pres W C horsley the remarks of pres dalby were particularly impressive as he discoursed upon the transition from this life alto to the next the musical numbers rendered by the ward choir were the hymns thou dost not weep etc guide ate ale to thee and the lord is my afy light between speakers isaac 11 II and C ellas elias jensen sang some happy day the prayers were offered by elders E A box and J D peters respectively and the grave was dedicated by bishop brigham wright A large cortege followed the remains to the cemetery the floral emblems were beautiful and profuse |
