Woodstock Inn, the only Rock resort in the Continental United States east of Wyoming, is totally booked over the holiday season, often many years in advance. For 40 years Woodstock's "Guiding Light has beamed above the town in the form of a lighted star atop Mt. Tom. It began when the Woodstock Electric Company, a predecessor to Central Vermont, honored a request from the ladies' church circles of the community to provide a "guiding light" in an era when Christmas wasnt as merry as it ought to be The star was so successful in 1940 that the Chamber of Commerce raised a permanent tower when the company sold out to Central Vermont. The place has ever since provided Woodstock with its very own Christmas star each holiday season.
