The director of the mental hospital at Coma Grupa near Bydgoscz, some 120 miles northwest of Warsaw, said the fire broke out in the third floor which housed the most serious psychiatric cases. More than 260 patients were evacuated and another 29 were rescued with injuries as Polish army units and 15 fire departments fought the blaze. The director said the cause of the fire was still being investigated.
