He was past president of Salt Lake Bank Officers Association. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1929. Mr. Cartwright was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving as a captain in the Air Force. He was a member of the Salt Lake Chapter of the Air Force Association, the Salt Lake Gun Association and the Alumni Club of the University of Utah.
