| Show THE U N BLOCKADE the delayed express gets through safely at last the ogden standard gives the following account of the blockade on the utah northern of which brief mention has been made in our rolumus columns tle delayed train due in ogden at am i in on friday departed from logan at noon on that day bearing quite a number of pass passengers 1 n it reached Col collingston collinston linston with without mishap and started on the down grade reaching Reach lne honeyville a tew lew miles north of brigham city it was found that mhd th freight train which left ogden at 6 9 am friday da Y h had ad met with an accident at that P place ace in la switching both of gines with which it was moved had been thrown from the track by the deep snow making it im possible impossible f for or the express to pass every effort eff ort was made by the railroad men aboard both trains to get the engines on to the track night came caad on and as it was apparent that the express would not get through till morning the greater number of the passengers ensconced themselves snugly and went to sleep food was procured at the homes of the settlers sett leis near by and there being plenty of coal on the train no danger was apparent of either stara ing or freezing despite the isolation and the frigid atmosphere an attempt was made to take the passenger traia baak to collingston collinston Col linston where more co comfortable for table quarters could be secured but it was found that the engines which had drought brought it from logan did not contain enough water to enable them ta push the train up the hill through the deep snow now and the effort was abandoned don P among the incidents of the hours of darkness might be mentioned the daring in and perilous teat feat of brakeman Brake maa richards Rig richards Bic hards who struck out ont for collins ton afoot a foot and alone and made his bis way there for the purpose of giving the sit nation of the trains to te the telegraph operators of that station his undertaking was none the more agreeable bee se of the darkness the snowing aud and the several deluges degrees below zero aero two tw engines which left eft logan for the south friday afternoon did not reach Col collinsson collinston Colli linston naton eighteen miles out until twelve hours baurs afterwards which fact will give a pretty accurate idea of the amount of snow which is encountered in the mounta country through which the little narrow guage road takes its way saturday afternoon after long and steady labor the trainmen succeeded lu in clearing the track and the express was tree free once more one engine was left at the spot it bel being 9 disabled snow was melted to obtain water enough to run ran the other engines to the nearest tank where water was Ae secured cured two of then them were attached to the passenger train and good time was made to ogden at brigham city the crew of laborers was met and both outfits came to ogden together at 5 a on sat saturday arday the tha passenger train rolled into the depot the engines creaked and babbled in a mass of snow and ice long icicles hung from the coaches from the latter a beg rimmed and worn out lot of people emerged and expressed themselves as being heartily glad to arilde in ogden |
