The commissioners have a general supervisory responsibility to ensure that all county officials faithfully perform their duties. They must approve all contracts and all expenditures of funds and the commission may audit it's a fact! and examine the records and accounts of any county office with respect to receipt and disbursement of funds. The board of county commissioners also serves as the county board of equalization which hears appeals from property owners on the appraisal and assessment of their property by the county assessor. As the chief executive agency of the county, the commission has direct responsibility for general administrative functions such as data processing, personnel administration and purchasing. Finally, as part of its revenue powers, trhe commission is empowered to levy a property tax for a variety of purposes. The job of the county assessor is quite straightforward. It is simply to find, describe and assess all taxable property in the county as it exists on Jan. 1 of each year. Taxable property includes real property; land, buildings and other improvements permanently attached to the land and tangible personal property; motor vehicles, and boats, machinery equipment; and business furniture and fixtures. The assessor actually collects the taxes assessed on all personal property and must settle the collections monthly with the county auditor. The and appraisal assessment records maintained in the assessors office are public records. The end product of the assessors work is to create an assessment roll by May of each year. The county auditor audits all claims against the county, issues all warrants for payment and maintains records of all receipts and disbursements. He audits the financial and management practices of the various county offices and prepares and publishes annually the financial countys statements showing the countys financial condition and results of operations. The auditor is required to advertise and conduct the May tax sale at which all properties with a five-yetax delinquency are offered for sale at public auction. The county auditor is, by statute, the countys budget ar officer, responsible for assembling all budget and requests making revenue and expenditure Bus service is a critical lifeline to rural America. Let us take this a step further for the fun of it. Weve been talking about faith in the familiar, as if belief in what our senses tell us represents a good belief ... I ask, Is it a good belief always? which we come ,to believe, and yet Christ rebuked his disciples for believing in their immovability. Christ admonished his disciples saying, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove to yonder place, and it shall remove. The $64,000 question that has bugged man since that statement came down to him centuries ago has been, what FAITH OF A is the MUSTARD SEED? A clue lies further along in the book of Matthew where Jesus says, Least ye become as little children, ye shall never enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. What does a tiny mustard seed have in common with a tiny child that relates to faith in the unfamiliar, as opposed to faith in the familiar? Christ made it very obvious that faith in the unfamiliar was, by far, the preferred state in these particular cases. After mulling it over for many years, it finally dawned on me that what they have in MY Every one seems to feel it as old glory passes and the strains of the national anthem fade away. Hartman Riding a motorcycle requires plenty of skill. In addition, riders must protect their bodies when they ride, because a motorcycle doesnt afford as much protection as a car. Protective gear includes a helmet, gloves, long sleeves, sturdy pants and boots. The most important piece of protective equipment you can own is a helmet. Reaching for your helmet should be as automatic as for the ignition reaching key. Studies show youre three times as likely to suffer a head injury in an accident if youre not wearing a helmet. No one expects to have an accident. Researchers have found that most accidents occur less than five miles from home. Since you cant predict when an accident may happen, it makes sense to protect yourself, at all times. If youre not wearing a helmet, even a minor, accident can have serious or fatal consequences, There arc several types of helmets available; prices vary widely. Whatever style you choose the most important thing to remember is; wear your helmet every time you ride; no matter how Rhort or long the trip. Put another way children dont know limits and for them just about anything is possible. As for the mustard seed, it doesnt think about itself and may reach any potential programed into its genetic structure. The adult theme, might be considered an adulteration of the childlike potential, not a fulfillment of it, as we would like to believe . . . The more sophisicated we become, the more limited we become, the more cynical we become, and the fewer options we explore. So, you say, What does this all have to do with look alike couples? Could it be a preference for the familiar as opposed to an faith Unfamiliar faith? It would be interesting to see if we tend to choose look alike mates when were less secure personally, or if we are tightened of active change. One might ask if the less persons unconsciously select a look more adventuresome self-conscio- alike for self protection. It appears that the the self- preserving attitude kills potential growth or open mindedness and universal acceptance. Jesus made it very clear in his own life style that he didnt hang around with like persons, for he was always having to rebuke his disciples for their narrow mindedness. When Christs disciples could not heal an epileptic boy He said What an unto them, believing and perverse generation! How long will I be with you? How much longer must I endure you? We might do well to watch our desire to only associate with like persons, or with the familiar ideas familiar may be the deadless threat of all. Overcoming severe handicaps which would drive most of us into despair, Miss Keller chose to live and to devote her life to the service of others, always stirring our sense of the heroic. But how and where did this remarkable woman find such undaunted courage and perseverence? What gave her the inner resources of faith to transcend a world of silent darkness? Her access to the spiritual world came from reading the works of Emanuel Swedenborg, , 18th century scientist, theologian, and The U.S. occupies philosopher. The knowledge gained from her discovery of the unseen world, to which so many are blind, enabled her to provide leadership and encouragement to countless thousands. Of Swedenborg, she wrote: It was as if light came where there had been no light before; the intangible world became a shining certainty. With poetic beauty and deep understanding, Helen Keller describes in My Religion the spiritual odyssey that brought her to a faith unhampered by narrow sectarianism.
