Two weeks ago, Weber Highs women tennis squad combined to defeat Sky View and the rest of the Region One line-u- p for a fall championship. Of even bigger note is Ogdens High staking claim to State title last weekend on the Brigham Young the University campus. Ogden claims title The Tiger women, behind the strong showing of several young players and experienced seniors, edged Provo High for the state title last Saturday in Provo. Ogden came out ahead Of the seven girls who participated on the varsity 3-- A 22-2- 0. 6 ts o p f ' Weber States tennis gathering made big headlines last spring and count on them doing it again. All through the summer, tennis greats from the, Ogden area took their share of honors in tournaments staged V??, in and out of the state. But the big talk over the past two weeks has been in the local high school scene. Ogden has become a city of level at Ogden, three are sophomores including their No. 1 singles player, Ismene Vetas. With that kind of youthful talent, tennis followers can well expect the to be in contention for the state tBIe for a tew to years come. No. 2 singles player is Kathy Benson, A junior. The Tigers third player in the singles rank Ip Jody Way, another sophomore. . M;'; . Two seniors, Traci Leieingar and Tracy Erickson,- v make up the No. 1 doubles team while Michelle San-bersophomore and Kim McCormick, senior make up - f ' the No. 2 doubles squad. Kathy Benson, whose mother Carol, coaches the i Ogden crew, said, I really felt all along that we could win in region and even take the state title. I dont think . any team practiced like we did. I can remember staying two hours every night in tough practice sessions. Another thing is that we girls j. Like Ogden, Weber is loaded with plenty of young and talented stars with a few experienced seniors to keep things honest. Jan Halllf and Stephanie Worcester play No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively, and both are Juniors. Lei Lani Stringham, sophomore, is the Warriors No. Ann-Me- . 17-1- 3 singles player. Playing No. 1 doubles is Holli Gay and Lori Swenson, seniors. both No. 2 doubles include Heidi Petersen and Pam Wade. Other members are Camille Davis, Christine Avis and Nanette Taylor with managers Shelly Penrod, LeAnn Camp and Valerie Christensen.
