I first want to thank all those who have helped our team in any way. We were in a slump and Im glad to be out of it. Winning sure helps a lot. We, as a team, are confident going into Nevada-Rensaid Miller. Riehlman stated that knocking off a good team like NAU was very pleasant, especially in the manner they did. Were playing with a great deal more emotion, said Riehlman. That emotion helped Weber State hold the nations top ground gainer, to only 67 yards on Wildcat Club members Monday that last Saturday evening at Wildcat Stadium was hopefully the beginning of a new era at Weber State. We, as a team, experienced some adverse publicity last week which wasnt entirely correct but can be expected when youre having a losing season. After we had some players drop off the squad, last week. I believe our attitude changed overnight. By the time we left the locker room and got on the practice field that day, it was amazing how our attitudes had changed. And this is no knock to the two men who dropoped off the squad. I like those two individuals, I like them a lot. It was just at the time they didnt want to pay the price we had to pay. We had one young man, Greg Gorman, who wanted to come back and he'll be playing this week. Gorman is a freshman. Were not going to allow the other two men to come back on the squad because we felt they made that much of a difference in our performance, Riehlman. o the ground. One thing we couldnt figure out is why we couldnt have better second halves. All the teams Ive been associated with have had good second halves. So we started taking water breaks .immediately after which we went right back to hard hitting of one sort or the other. This was to see emotionally if they couldnt train five-minu- te themselves to bounce back immediately. We did that each day of the week and Saturday night I believe the team went out with some of the greatest intensity that Ive seen, said Riehlman. The Wildcat coach was elated the way his team held NAU on kickoff and punt returns. He was also impressed with his kicker, Roger Ruzek. You ought to come to the game early and watch Roger boot field goals yards out. His 51 yard field goal Saturday was a school record and Ill say right now I wouldnt be scared to have Roger try field goals from 60 yards out. Hes capable of doing it, Riehlman stated. said Mark Massey, Weber State free safety, was invited to the Monday meeting and he told club members that he was happy that Coach Riehlman upped the tempo of practices. He commented that it wasnt meant for any other reason than to prepare the players for the upcoming game. Former star speaks Paul Waite, former Weber State Wildcat quarterback and now the head coach at Bountiful High, addressed Wildcat Club members last Monday afternoon at the Holiday Inn. In beginning his remarks he stated the Wildcats had already broken one of his marks, that of having a fatter quarterback. Another record I wish youd break is the five interceptions in one game my wife keeps harassing me about, said Waite. Waite reported that his relationship with Riehlman goes back sometime. After playing his high school football in California, he was somewhat recruited by Santa Barbara where Riehlman was an assistant coach. The two met briefly at the time. I followed where Coach Riehlman went for the next few years and I was happy to hear when Weber State hired him, said Waite. Waite took over the Bountiful High football problem eight seasons ago which had been a losing situation.
