That kind of noise and the action that goes with it is something the city - TRYING TO FIND the handle is of Clearfield has been missing for the past couple of years. little girls softball, for the first time since its induction into the city recreation program, is making its memories on Clearfield diamonds. The Hey batter batter, hey batter batter is familiar on the boys scene too, but the girls chatter does something a little more sensitive to the sports fan and being a personal witness of it is the only way youll find that out. But if desire to hear the girls play and see their meaningful trys, youll have to wait until next year. Last Friday evening at the Hill Field Elementary Park, the girls concluded their first initial season on Clearfield soil. The Pink Panthers emerged as the 1979 summer champions with a decisive 22-- 4 victory over the Stars. Besides the Pink Panthers and the Stars, and Crusaders also fielded a team to help complete the three Clearfield team league. These young girls whose ages range from 8 to 12 broke away from the Layton league to form their competition ring at home. Of this Teresa Maxwell, the league assistant director said, We just didnt feel like we were a part of the program in Layton. In fairness to ourselves and to Layton we decided this year that wed play at home. We started late this season, but I think everyone enjoyed what season we had. Heading the girls program this year was Karen Mower with Maxwell as her aide. The coach over the Pink Panthers was Judy Adams and Holly McIntosh. Diane Thompson led the Stars and the Crusaders were mentored by Barbara Young and Don Marshall. & the Crusaders catcher. On July 12th at Fisher Park in Clearfield the girls will officially close the curtains on their season with a banquet to honor the girls and their coaches.
