Davis North observes national hospital week LAYTON A breakfast meeting for community leaders highlighted this weeks National Hospital Week ac- tivities at Davis North Medical Center, with its administrator explaining the hospitals role in the Voluntary Effort (VE) to contain health care costs. The VE goal, said administrator Dean Holman, is to reduce the rate of increase in health care expenditures by four percentage points in 1978 and 1979. It takes teamwork and dedication, but we can make a dent in the cost spiral, he said. It makes a lot more sense to take steps now to reduce costs than to forced someday to ration health services to the public. Three President Carters plan is basically a rationing proposal. Davis North is joining in the National VE movement by an overview of equipment needs, use of labor-savin- g computers in billing and inventory and by offering its Health Line and pre-natclasses to reduce al consumers the need for hospitalization. Patients at Davis North were given individual table-tent- s on their food trays to bring their attention to VE and National Hospital Week. A reduction in the rate of hospital inflation is important, said Mr. Holman, but we at Davis North refuse to make that reduction at the expense of quality care.
