Coach Sydney Conley was pleased with her teams first performance of the year but noted her girls have a lot of improvement to be made before championship time rolls into sight. She was particularly impressed with the beginning team which performed well against Davis, Winning 151.80 to 144.5. Sophomore, Sarah Leonard, was brilliant in the meet. She claimed several firsts in competition. She performs in the beginning class. Also performing routines well in beginning were Robin Clements, Michelle Hartline, Teresa Poulsen, Joyce Davies, and Tammy Taylor. On the Intermediate level, Lisa Christensen placed first in optional beam. Her teammate, Sheri Stevens, took a first in optional bars and a second in optional floor. Lori Johnson took a first in optional floor. Beverly Wood placed second in optional bars, Linda Owens was third in optional beam and Jan Dahle was third in optional vault. Acting as one of the teams cocaptains this season is Sheri Stevens. Stevens brings valuable leadership to the Clearfield team, which should be a top contender for the Region One title this season. Helpful, a good attitude, en- - thusiastic, and talented. I suppose those are the best words to describe Sheri, and that just about says it all, said Coach Conley, Im confident in her style as she goes through any routine. The other girls are learning from her. LORI JOHNSON in recent beam dismounts off workout. Wildlife performed well for Clearfield in her team's victory over Davis High last week. The study, initiated in 1972 when the plant was under construction, is being funded by UP&L at a cost of three to four thousand dollars annually. Division biologist A1 Heggen said that blood and tissue samples are collected from deer and rodents each year. The blood is tested at Intermountain Laboratories in Salt Lale City and the data is analyzed by computer. There is no hard core data yet, said Heggen, but we ultimately will want to determine if there have been any detrimental effects on the animals due to the plants discharge of gases and particulate matter. noted that Division Heggen biologists will be looking for the buildup of heavy metals in the livers and kidneys of the animals and also at any changes in reproductive rates during the course of the study. lunch This information may provide important guidelines useful in making plans for future power plants, establishing emission control standards and providing mitigation for Utah wildlife. - OROCKRY - 399' FANCIF00D MANDARIN ORANGES HUNTS PRIMA SALSA STALEY 100 NATURAL SYRUP 24-GOOD NEWS CAT FOOD iO ot.pkg 49' is. 89 $1.39 $1 .19 SUNSHINE SALTINES Mb. Division of Wildlife Resources biologists are currently studying the Pine Valley deer herd migration patterns in the .Snowfield and Pintura areas of southern Utah. The project is an effort to better understand the relationship between summer and winter range and will enable wildlife officials to manage local deer populations more effectively. Alfalfa and apple mash are used to attract and concentrate deer under a net which is then dropped over them, capturing up to a dozen deer at one time. Immediately, officials are busy attaching collars and ear tags. Lori Johnson will be big plus for Falcons this TALENTED season. |
