The Royal Fathers elected to remain in our 4A, Because, they reasoned, population trend will reach the 1400 limit within two years; Roy has. been able to effectively complete on the 4A level of athletics ; and we dont want to give up established rivalries. You dont hear any static from the Royal fans about the administrators decision to remain as a 4A school Roy has enjoyed prosperity in athletics, in the past several years and has won region titles in football, basketball and baseball, but the Royals have had some great Horses for those races. Roy has finished as high as third in state but never won all the marbles. Every other team in the new region One has won a state title in something. What will happen when a few lean years come to haunt the gallant Royals? There werent too many n on last years football and three team, juniors are listed only on the varsity basketball team. Gone will be Jon Nickerson, Fred Fernandes, Mark Sindle, Doug Fosmark and others who made their marks as juniors. Before them were Kurt Bonneville, Roy, Weber and Sky View. Will our attendance figures deplete as our winning records decline? Am I being too pessimistic, or am I being realistic? There will also be a ft baked goods booth with items donated by the teams families. She competes all the time. She'll race to the chair lift for the first run of the day. She'll keep track of the number of training runs she makes, going for the record. She's about it. "I don't think I'm competing against other people when I do things like that," she says. Last summer, Becky was doing mork bike riding than usual because she was recovering from a knee operation. Running Is a luxury she saves for times when her knees and ankles are in good shape. Although Becky has never broken any bones, her ski racing career has been slowed by Injuries to her knees and ankles. Tage Pedersen, the U.S. Ski Team's adviser, has worked with Becky during the periods when she is recovering. "If you physical-conditionin- g tellBecky to do an exercise three timqs,f she'll do it four times, he says. Sh9 Is really energetic and deter- mined." With the exception of her knee operation last May, Becky's last two years have been Injury-freLast winter, her best season ever, she scored In seven World Cup races, including a second place In the Watervllle Valley, N.H., giant slalom and a fourth place in slalom at Berchtesgaden, West Germany. Last summer, Becky took a physics course at the Unlv. of Oregon In Eugene. She did a lot of hiking and backpacking, and entered some bike races. Her knee was healing well, and she was looking forward to a good season of competition. "I had some really, good races last season," she said, "enough to make me realize that too many of my results have been mediocre." At Lake Placid, Becky Intends to Improve her score.
