Pauline Jensen, Hyrum, will be sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 47, and Faye Obray of Paradise will be sponsored by the Paradise Junior Chamber of Commerce. Eligibility is limited to girls who have just completed their third year of high school work, , These girls, according to Mrs. Paul, were selected by the Aux- iliary unit as outstanding girls because of their actual record of outstanding scholarship, leadership, character, musical accomplishments and sports participation. Their names have been accepted as candidates to the Girls State by the State Girls Committee. Pauline has a rating of straight A grades for three years. Last year she was assistant editor of the school paper and this year will be editor. She is a capable young musician at the piano and organ. She taught piano lessons after her school hours last year. For two years she has served as the Hyrum Third Ward Sunday School organist. She is prominent in school activities and sports. She was chosen last winter to skate in the Centennial Ice Skating Carnival at Logan. Pauline is the daughter of Mrs. Gladys Jensen of Hyrum. Faye was class historian of the- - 8th grade class at Paradise before attending South Cache. She has made an admirable record as an A student and is active in school activities. She is IN ALASKA Mr. and Mrs. Luther Murray received word of the illness of their daughter, Beth Hudkins, in Alaska. She was suffering from a severe case of pneumonia, but later, word indicated that she is well on the road to recovery. Reed Biekmore of Hyrum was appointed to replace his father, E. M. Biekmore as director in the Hyrum Lions Club Wednesday. E. M. Biekmore. has been ordered by his physician to stop doing any unnecessary work, and therefore resigned his position, in the club. With this change the club has the following officers: C. J. Stauffer, president; A. V. Atkinson, 1st vice president; Maurice Stoker, 2nd vice president; Mac Rose, secretary; La "ere Kidman, Lion Tamer; Marion Olsen, Tail Twister, and the following directors: Dewey Forsberg, Jesse Reed Biekmore, Garnel Lar sen and Owen Hall. , Nielsen,-- Involved, the Courier recently published the story of the rescue of Dean Baxter of Hyrum by Miss Jerry Nielsen of Hyrum from the' water of the Hyrum Dam. - This week we heard reports, said to come from witnesses of the affair, to the effect that the not whole thing was a stunt,-anJ a genuine rescue. The publisher of the Courier felt that the readers deserved, the facts should truth and that-thbe established for' the good of f all concerned. ' j In an interview with Dean Baxter we learned the following: ' There WAS a rescue. The was NOT staged. However, the whole action took place somewhat differently than most reports have it. Dean Baxter and Miss Jerry Nielsen, while riding their horses along the banks of the lake formed by the Hyrum dam decided to swim their horses just for the fun. of it. Both entered the water on horseback and were out in deep water when Dean fell off his horse while clowning. He was farther out than Jerryy, and when she saw him having trouble swimming and staying above water, swan her horse out to him and helped him back to shore. I was having trouble swimming and probably xvould not have been able to .reach shore if Jerry had not been there to help me, said Dean. Undoubtedly those who saw the pair in the water did not realize that Dean xvas in danger and did not sense the fact that Jerry had probably saved liis life. . d affair Virginia Jorgensen Wins Contesl Airginia Jorgensen, daughter of Mayor and Mrs. John AA'.
