Show i -- WEEKLY REFLEX DAVIS NEWS JOURNAL, AUGUST 3. 1978 Trespassing On 'SSL-- . -- ' .. IlLige: Hazsraloiis Where Are Last Years Players Mow? By DAVE WIGHAM With the return of high school football just around the comer and the new names of heroes at the local schools once again one has to wonder where will the names of last year be? IN THE case schools in particular, Layton and Bountiful High, last years big names will be playing down south for the Dixie Junior College folks. To read the list of prospective players for the Rebels is like looking through a program from the Brave-Lancbattle of a year ago of two GOING TO the southern school from Bountiful are people like Dean Layton, Ron Hammer, Scott Kinnear and Kent Palmer. From the Lancer folks people like Wane Kittrell, Sam Gallegos and Rick Snow. The selection of Dixie by Hammer, Layton and Kittrell was somewhat of a surprise in that all three of these great football players all excelled in wrestling and the Rebels dont even have a wrestling program at the school. KITTRELL had a great three year career for the Lancers, Layton placed second in state for the Braves and Hammer was a state competitor all three years at a very tough weight classification Dean will report to camp vying for a spot on the line, he has good speed and quickness and could be a great college player. RON IS big enough to play college ball in the line and is also very fast for his size. Kittrell will go for a linebacker spot, he is considered small by some experts, not him though, but is quick and a hard hitter. Bountifuls Kent Palmer will also make the trip south to try out for the Rebels, Kent is quick and played linebacker for the Braves, they might try moving him to a defensive back. ANOTHER defensive back candidate is Sam Gallegos considered by many last year to be the hardest hitter in the region. Sam has good speed and loves to be where the action is Scott Kinnear is one of the biggest linebacker possibilities this year at 63 and around 200 pounds Scott could turn into a great college player. A hard hitter who could also play some line positions. wide RICK Snow was everyones choice as receiver and it is said throw the ball anywhere on the field and Snow will catch it. Rick has great speed and even greater hands These players, along with many more are due to report this month, once again the colleges are noticing the local talent m the county. A big fence protects the right of the fairway, over the fence is out of play, and the left is guard- ed by three small lakes Number two is the first of three par three holes on the course, this one being 135 yards long. Out of bounds greets the golfers who stray Paee protects the right of the fairway while those three small lakes are on the left. Hole four, a par four 340 yarder, also bends to the golfers right from the tee Hit the ball too hard and straight on the drive and it'll finish up in the road along the left of the hole, go right and you find some rough which is still playable FIVE IS a short, 130 yards, par three that is sometimes misleading The green is protected on the left by a fence, the right by a sand trap and the back, for those who hit long, by rough followed by another fence. Number six is a straight 320 yarder that plays to a par 4. The right side of the fairway is protected by a fence, hit left and youre safe. Again though, hit long and the ball is out of play. . J . NUMBER three is another long par five, 510 yards, which doglegs a little to the golfer's right Tee shots are fine unless hit way right which finds the tail end of the driving range On this hole the fence to the driving range 11 THE PAR three number a 175 yarder, has proven to be one of the toughest holes on the course The left side is protected by a fence, the right side of the green by a sand trap, and even for those who hit long and to the right there's a lake to welcome them. Eight is a par four 380 yarder which is protected by a sand trap on the right A huge tree in the middle of the fairway has been the undoing of many a golfer. seven, THE FINAL hole, a par five 480 yards, usually plays to a birdie, which gets the golfers excited about coming back. The rough on this hole is a big factor but stay clear of it and a birdie is a big possibility So for a different change of pace, one of the few flat courses around, try the Bountiful Springs course, you might enjoy yourself of Kaysville, are now back to their homes following an out- ing at Henrys Fork, near McKennen, Wyo.
