The big question was that the High School Assotiation had no provision for a rain out in the stale tournament. The rule all year had been after five Inninps the p.ame was offit lal. I he ass-- iation should make a rule for the tournament. No one will ever know if the Vikings could have done anyth'up tn the last Inning but the players it rtainly if. i ve I the chain e. C bt-- , J DURING THE couisc of the ye ir a ram shut timed loss could be liveable with, but this was the Vikes second loss and put them out of the tournament. Another aspect was that the rain only laMed about 3(1 minutes, but it came down hard, and had the field bad a tarp to cover the infield, the game could have been finished. EACH YEAR the tournament is thrown into a turmoil investby the bad weather and a tarp would be a pre-ament. It would be a gxd unlit atmn also to look at the schools that have little problem with wet grounds All of them have grass infields with only dirt around the bases and on the pitchers' mound. Any new high school diamond should take the weather into consideratjon t THREE THINGS then. First make a special ruling about rain outs in the state tournament and give the teams a chance. Second, purchase a tarp to cover the dirt during ram storms And third, new high school diamonds should be mostly grass with very little dirt to soak up the moisture W This Jilue Titk Hound Wihe s By DAVE WIGHAM II WITH MUIR - VIEWMONT had plenty of opportunities to make their game with Clearfield a route, but the Vikings failed to nail down the coffin and the Fal- cons came back to hand Viewmont their second loss of the tournament After four and a half innings the Vikings had a lead and their pitcher Kelly Downs had a no hitter going, but then the Vikes came unglued. 5-- ball. TWO HITS batsmen and one out, later the rain caused the game to be delayed. Following a thirty minute delay the 4-- umpires and officials at the game decided the field was unfit to play and since it had gone the allotted five innings the game was declared a legal game and Clearfield was the winner. It was a tough way for the Vikings to end their state hopes but for the Falcons it was a chance to continue on in the double elimination event. time the Vikes had the chance to score more runs than their four in the opening innings but whether you call it good defense by Clearfield or poor base running by Viewmont, the Vikings just couldnt put the runs across the plate. Downs was in complete control of his game in the first four innings only allowing one base runner to reach first. Then the rain came and the Clearfield team got a little excited about the game. Reports For Duty Navy Radioman Third Class John J. Pepin, son of .Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Pepin of 88 Emerald Street, Layton, has reported for duty aboard aircraft carrier USS Independence, currently undergoing overhaul at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, Va. IN THE Clearfield half of the fourth the Falcons started things off harmlessly with Phil Gardiner reaching first on an error. Larry Read then drew a walk putting runners at first and second. Brad Muir then got the first hit off Kelly scoring one and sending Read to third Downs was then called for a balk by the home plate umpire, scoring Read from third. graduate of Layton High School, he joined the Navy in January 1976 A 1975 03 H By DAVE WIGHAM - .xa,wi r- -j I 3 t 3-- 0 and lost tournament while two will now face each other to decide which one advances while the other ends their i!0?
