Hislop came to Weber State in 1989, following eight successful seasons as head coach at Ogdens Ben Lomond High School. His high school tenture had produced seventeen state champions, and one outBell. standing Olympian-Wa- de Hislop is a native Ogdenite. A 1955 graduate of Ben Lomond, he attended Weber in its junior college days. As a Wildcat distance runner, Hislop finished fifth in e race. the National J.C. Following graduation from Weber, Hislop entered Utah State where he attained a B.S. degree in 1959. He also participated as a runner with the Aggies, and placed on several occasions in the old Skyline Conference meets. He was awarded a Masters degree from Utah State in 1970, and his thesis reflects his interests and dealt with the development of a knowledge-- it championship program for legitimate the high schools of the state of Utah. His recommendations were followed almost to the letter when the state did eventuallyadopt such a program. Hislop came to Weber State in 1969, and has been a fixture at the school and in the Big Sky Conference since that time. Along with his duties as the track and field program and the cross country team, Hislop also term as the Wildcat wrestling coach, served a six-yeearning conference finishes as high as second, and accompanying several grapplers to National Cham; pionship competition. He is recognized as one of the finest coaches in the intermountain area. All but two school records have been set under his leadership, he has coached 19 Big Sky Conference champions during his tenure, and has status. developed a pair of athletes to The Hislop formula is based on some pretty sound principles, and has no magic whatever involved with it. Chick, a serious student of the sport, relies on hard, correct training techniques. He is a master motivator of young men and the combination of knowledge, hard work, and personal motivation makes his Wildcat athletes among the best in the intermountain area. Hislop still demands as much of himself as be does his athletes. He lop several miles per week running, and is in demand as a meet official and lecturer at clinics in the area.. He and his wife Dianne are the parents of five children, who quite naturally follow in their fathers athletic footsteps. Son Lance, 12, is already a marathon veteran while eldest daughter Elynn is an ac--f complished gymnast and tumbler.
