This roundtrip hike is just provides hikers with some excellent birds eye views of North Ogden and the surrounding area. To start this hike, drive onto 3100 N. in North Ogden and connect onto the North Ogden Pass Road. This irj 1 $ paved road (which was . somewhat improved by road crews this spring) winds its way up above North Ogden Canyon to the summit at 6,184 feet above sea level. The trailhead begins on the south end of the paved parking lot at the top of the North Ogden Pass Summit. Since the trail begins at 6,184 feet, hikers automatically have 1,000 feet less to climb to begin with than that over ten miles long and is one of the areas newest trails. The trail is wide,' generally r smooth and trails which a peak ( making you climb an. extra 100 feet), .while the other fork of the trail goes around the peak with no extra altitude climb. After a four mile walk, another fork in the trail is reached. Here one trail heads west, while the other continues to go straight South. Hikers who want to reach Lewis Peak should take the west trail. This new trail which was completed in the late summer of 1978 by the Forest Service is 1.5 miles long (one way) and connects onto the top of Lewis Peak (8.031 feet). This peak, named after Lewis Shurtliff (an Ogden Pioneer who was the first known person to climb the peak) is the highest frontal peak in the mountain range between North Ogden Pass and Ogden Canyon. Lewis Peak gives great views of the Ogden area. y -- Sgk.- fip a 'ii'V 'M i k NS ,'N..
