Coach Dick Conollys troops had Warrior fans on the very edge of their seats last Thursday A jump shot by Rick Scadden with two seconds remaining iced Webers first Region One victory and enabled those same fans to sit back and let out a big sigh of relief The victory came at the expense of m a stubborn Bountiful team, Bountiful The Braves have been surprising thus far this season and the scare they gave Weber the other evening helped confirm the fact that this season may be one of the most 5V 14-1- 1978-7- 9 Despite Weber pulling out a five point lead once in the second period, the second stanza was close all the way. Coach Conolly went to the bench constantly, using Drew Skeen and Ralph Anderson frequently. Rick Scadden pumped in a shot with 28 seconds remaining that gave Weber the lead, but Lynn Muir hit two freethrows on the Bountiful end after being fouled by Scadden to tie the score at 31 a piece Bountiful made their attempt to break the game open in the third Perkins, and stanza, with Muir, Bernard doing most of the damage, but as Coach Conolly voiced in the locker room afterwards, We just kept fighting back Weber found themselves down by seven a couple times and were nine points under at another time Hall Montgomery, and Anderson hit all the buckets for Weber in the third period Bountiful emerged with a 7 lead after three quarters Again the Warriors found themselves constantly batting back in the final quarter The Braves wouldnt quit, with Perkins whirling and scoring every time he decided it was time for points. P Roy may have found their right combination last week as they blitzed The victory was past Skyview, sweet for the Royals and Coach Ted Smith, who had never before beaten the Bobcats m the Royal gym. Bonneville led Layton through much of the first half of their game with Layton, but inexperience lacked m the closing minutes and the Lakers dropped their second straight Clearfield dominated Viewmont, especially in the third period and the Falcons netted their seventh straight victory this season and second consecutive in Region One Clearfield is almost in top form, even this early in the season. If the Falcons dont peak too soon and continue their brilliant play, they could be heavy contenders for the title Bountiful jumped out to a 0 lead against Weber last Thursday and were always m contention from that point foward. The Warriors were out m front by five, their widest margin in the second period, but Wally Perkins, the lightening quick Bountiful guard, scored the next five points to tie the game and put the Braves back into the game 1 With the score knotted at half, Bountiful scored nine unanlead and swered points to take a 1 their widest margin. But two Brad Hall jumpers and the same from Mark Montgomery, pulled Weber to within three points. Hall was Mr. Everything for the Warriors in the Brave clash. Perkins went to the freethrow line four times in the last period and converted only two of a 4-- ' t : possible 8 points. The Braves looked like winners with less than when they jumped a minute remaining. Hall connected with 48 seconds left and Anderson hit a long shot with 23 seconds. Bernard had a chance to secure a victory for the Braves with 13 seconds remaining but he missed on a one and one situation. Montgomery pulled down the rebound.
