It was the magical tune that pricked the hearts and senses of thirteen volleyball palyers and a coach and gave them the coveted 1978 State Volleyball Championship. Yes, Weber Highs girls volleyball team made a reality a reality last Saturday night at the University of Utah by capturing the States Volleyball Crown with a tense and heart-throbbin- "V v r; g ft I vicotry over West High. A reality or a dream? Coach Jan Keim, the inspirational floor general for Weber High, leaves no question that what has taken place is no dream, but a reality to be sure. "The kids and I werent bashful in broadcasting we were out to win the title before the tournament started. Weve worked all season for this and that makes it extra special to us, said Keim. The Dont Stop Beieving chants sent new blood flowing through the veins of a team who constantly fought back. The chants not only affected the Warriors squad but sent inspiring chills up the spines of parents, faculty, idle fans, cameramen and others. It wasnt long before all were chanting voccally or hearts pounding out the k V,v4 '1. ; V'i fi ' ff words. f t The coveted Volleyball Championship is the first state title ever taken by a womens sports team at Weber High. It is the first state title captured by any Weber High athletic team since 1971 when the mens basketball team took the state title. Do or Die for Warriors Weber survived two first round matches with Olympus and Granite and that earned them the uneasy task of attempting to knock off arch-rivgame. Roy in the semi-fina- l The Royals were playing superb volleyball, having already knocked off Hillcrest, who was one of only three teams to beat Weber in the 1978 season.
