' His Darts have won only one ' time in four preseason games " this season, losing two of those games by one point. The latest close loss came last ' Friday at Ben Lomond, and the Darts had a legitimate chance to win the game, said Gardner. ' With only a few seconds on the clock, the Darts worked for ; the good shot and got it, Gard- ner said. It wasnt a hope shot. shot and we Jt was a ' missed it. ; And Davis shooting problems ;have plagued the Darts during other games, and that may be a I result of the prolonged football ; season, explained Gardner. ' We havent shot all fall, he ; said. Most teams have three, four or five guys that didnt play 'football and were in the gym-shooting. Davis has exactly one ; player among its top players who didnt play football. Nevertheless, Gardner said he I is not disappointed in the other facets of his offense. Were get-- ; ting good shots and Im not wor--: Tying, he said. But, Gardner ! added, I thought we would be better at this time than we are. The Darts picked up their first win of the season last Wednes-- , day, beating Layton ; Gardner said he has been hap- py with the rebounding of center ;Mike Orton, who averaging about 12 boards a game, but said Orton needs to improve his of--; fensive game for the Darts to be ' : . ; . BOUNTIFUL , i ? , i r Work on your defense, coaches like to say in preseason, the of--1 fense will take care of itself. At Bountiful High, that axiom has been put into practice, but Coach Mike Hall said it is time for his offense to start coming around. We need to s.tart running our I ' pattern a little better, said Hall about his offense; which is facing mostly zone defenses this year.' Hall Nobody mans you-tsaid, which makes hitting' out-- , side shots even more important, i Brent Bouvang, a 4 senipr,; leads the Braves ift scoring with , la average and has lived ' up to his preseason billing, said Hall. Guard Troy Rawlings has also played well for Bountiful, averaging 12 points a game. ' In fact, said Hall, the whole team is playing pretty good. :But even though the Braves have won six straight since their .season opening loss to Clear- field, Hall said his club needs to especially on of-improve 6-- ; nt ; ; . fense. But Johansen said his other players got to the point where we threw the ball to him and watched him play. The other Vikings need to start looking for the basket because region teams will collapse on 'Cloward and shut Viewmont down offensively, said Johansen. The reason for Clowards under pressure is experience, Johansen said. Cloward is a holdover who started as a sophomore and the other kids are new at the (varsity) game. Cloward is better under pressure. After the loss Thursday, the Vikes rebounded Friday to beat 6 Granger on Friday night and then defeated Granite on Saturday, Viewmont will take its 1 record on the road next week when it meets Roy on Dec. 20 and then host American Fork on Dec. 22.
