Different Decorations Cart Add New Look to Home for Holiday CAROLE COLE , Review Correspondent No matter what is done the rest of the year in the way of holiday decorating, Christmas seems to bring out a special zeal in all of us. Digging out the traditional, 1 d decorations in their dusty boxes signals the beginning of a season that spells time-honore- excitement with a capital E. Yet every year one keeps an eye out for something new to' add to the collection of decorations. Magazines, newspapers, books, and friends are all consulted to ferret out ideas and instructions.' For your new item this year, you may want to consider these ideas. None of them require a lot of money, nor a lot of time, so. they should be welcome projects for most homemakers. For your door this season instead of the traditional wreath, how about hanging a klockas-tran- g instead? A what, you say? A klockastrang! In Scandinavia they are very popular as door decorations at Christmas time. Here they are more popularly known as bell pulls., Traditionally, the bell pulls carry cowbells--th- e bell is rung by visitors to announce their arrival. You can make your own door pull with strips of green, red, for the and white background, white in the middle, and red on top. Vary the widths and lengths of the strips so that when they are put together in layers, a little of the color on the, bottom strip shows around the top strip. The strips may be cut with pinking shears. Three sets of strips, again of varying lengths (18, 15, and 14 inches are suggested). Taper the ends of of strips into points. Attach the three pulls to a wooden ring (those used for macrame are handy). Also through the wooden ring attach a separate strip of red felt and on it hang a cowbell, painted gold. Attach small sleigh bells to the three-felpulls, sewing through all three layers of each strip. Lastly, attach the wooden ring to a cluster of evergreens and hang the klockastrang on your door. Danish klockastrangs serve as advent calendars. A long wide strip is made with 24 windows, two windows sid by side in 12 rows, for each day of December from the first to Christmas Eve. Each morning the shutter for that date is opened to reveal scenes of holiday activity. In the last window is a picture, of the Christmas tree. - The cowbell or a cluster of sliegh bells is attached at the bottom of the pull. The pictures behind each shutter may be cut from last years Christmas cards. Yet another bell pull is called the treasure klockastrang. A strip of red felt 20 inches long and 3 inches wide is cut out with pinking shears. A dark green satin ribbon inch in width is sewn through the middle of the thons, or crab apples are good) and scoop holes large enough for candles.
