General Welfare We favor enactment of laws to facilitate slum clearance and low-cohousing programs for farm and city; and for that purpose we urge the ratification of the Federal Housing Authority by the state of Utah for the benefit of the low income groups. Adequate civil service laws for state employes. Appropriation of sufficient funds st A WELCOME! We favor a program of adult education. We favor the extension of the teachers tenure law. Jobs and Security for All We oppose throwing the relief burden back on local communities where it becomes unbearable tax burden on merchants, farmers, and but propose that in-- 1 creased responsibility for relief expenditures be carried by the Federal and state governments to be paid for by a tax on the profits of ' 25c PLATE LUNCH SERVED DAILY t home-owner- MAYFLOWER CAFE POPULAR PRICES Salt Lake City 154 So. Main, s, ATTENTION The Utah Labor News campaign for adequate WPA funds has attracted nationwide attention. According to information received at this office many copies of the Utah Labor News have gone to Washington by air mail and spe cial delivery. These copies have gone to President Roosevelt and several Senators and Congressmen, and include the issues of this paper for the past four weeks. We have received requests for copies from every section of the United States. Last weeks issue was in heavy demand, because of the leading article under caption, Tory Senator King Is a Disgrace to Utah. New subscriptions are coming in daily and the Utah Labor News continues its militant fight in behalf of the people. . TYPOGRAPHICAL AUXILIARY monopolies. We urge more Page 3 sponsored by Burton II. Such appointments would be made, so the report has it, from a list of candidates recommended by a committee which includes three judges of the supreme court. Terms of the supreme court judges would be for ten years, that for the district judge to be four years. This proposal is one which should meet with determined opposition by the people. It takes from them the right to select judges by the ballot, places candi dates for such offices out of reach of the voters. The tendency already is too much toward appointments to various offices and thus creating wide open system for cultivation of a political machine. We need less appointive powers for our executives and more electing power for the people. Judges should be elect ed on a basis, howand the thus ever, party influence removed in some degree from judiciary selections. Legislators should point their efforts in the direction of eliminating as much as possible the appointive arrangement which put political ward heeling on a basis which leads toward political racketeering.
