Show UTAH LABOR NEWS, SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, APRIL 23, 1937. Coal Miners Meet in S. L. City , (Continued from Page 1) previous year of six local unions and 1207 members.' The report covers three years of activities in Utah and Wyoming. It says the three years that have passed have been marked by im nortant developments for labor, both on the economic and political field. Our own organization, dur ing that period, has made three agreements, each of them repre senting substantial improvements in hours and wages. - C. I. O. Message of Hope The progressive unions that comprise the C. I. 0. have carried a new message of hope to the un organized workers in the mass production industries. We see the result of this campaign in agree ments made for the steel, automo bile, radio, rubber and other industries, where the workers were without organization of strong unions. In every instance the or ganizing campaign has brought either substantial benefits to the workers in improved conditions of employment, increased wages oi shorter hours, and in most instances all three. During the past three years we have witnessed the enactment of social security legislation that were but dreams a few years ago. Old age assistance and unemployment insurance now are written into our laws to add some form of security to those growing old, as well as protection to those thrown out of employment through no fault of their own. We have more reason to look forward with hope for the future than at any time in the history of the labor movement. Did Not Just Happen These accomplishments did hot just happen; they are the results of three years of consistent, cooperative effort on the part of officers and members of our international union, district organizations and local unions. It has in our district, the same as in all others, cost both time and money. Your officers have never hesitated in answering all requests for cooper-activ- e effort, have attended all conferences and conventions taking whatever part was necessary to protect our membership. We believe the records of achievement speak for themselves, and we are proud, indeed, of our part in same. May this convention be harmo- - nious and helpful, so that the people wo represent may be helped. Again let us renew our pledge of loyalty to our own international union and its able officers. To the great man in the White House, our President, let us again ahsure him, while he fights for us, we fight for him. Committee At Work Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee.
