The lavs dispute has drawn widespread attention and suppoit from across a broad segment ot the American labor, immigrant, and religious and social justice mm ements. Utah women with children younger than 6 and ages 6 to 17 are the least likely to work - 54 percent are in the labor force. In 1900. few women worked for pay. Now, most w omen w ork for pay. But per- haps the question of Emmeline B. Wells, an early Utah suf-fragette remains true: "The great question is, is she preparing herself for the position she is destined to occupy and the work which will conse- quently devolve upon her?" Utah women's rate of labor force participation mea- sures somewhat lower than male counterparts' 77 percent. But since females tend to live longer, the participation rate tends to be understated, ex- plained workforce services. In Utah, young women be- tween the ages of 20 and 24 are most likely to work - 76 percent. But not far behind are the women ages 45 to 54 74 percent. Utah women who are the least likely to work older than the age of 65 at 9 percent. While on average, Utah women work at a higher rate than U.S. women, age makes a difference. Between the g ages of 25 and 44, Utah women's participation rates in the labor force are lower than U.S. counterparts. The court subsequently stayed the execution of the indeterminate prison term in the felony criminal information, suspended the service of all but two days of jail time in the misdemeanor complaint and placed Maddera on probation under the department of corrections for 36 months. As conditions for formal supervision, the district judge sentenced the defendant to serve 10 months in the county jail in connection with the felony level criminal case and instructed Maddera to undergo DNA screening as well as cover the costs associated with the procedure.
