However, those Carbon County anglers who have tried fishing in this stretch ofriver have not been disappointed. In fact, many sections ofthe river provide excellent trout fishing. The easiest way to get to the upper section of the Price River, which is also known as Lower Fish Creek, is to approach the river from Scofield dam. this access point is one of the most heavily fished portions of the river, but anglers are able to catch many brown trout in this area. Brown trout fingerlings Emery County Progress CAES CAUSE HUDOTMUS & SPECIAL SECTION are stocked annually in this area, and these fish have excellent growth rates, due to the fertile water flowing out of Scofield Reservoir. Access to a more remote section of the river exits on property owned by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. Fewer anglers use thise area, since the road is primitive, (a four wheel drive vehicle is necessary), but the quality of the scenery and tlm brown troiit fishing make this area a favorite among those who have made the trip. Here, the stream flows through heavily forested land where wildlife is plentiful. This area can be reached by turning Buckle Up! 7 west off of U.S. Highway 6 approximately one mile south of the Colton Bridge. The section of river between Colton Bridge and Castle Gate holds populations of brown trout, rainbow trout and cutthroat trout. This section has more water than the area above it, since the White River adds its flow just above the Colton Bridge. The stream elevation drops rapidly as it travels dow n Price canyon, and the steepest areas hold few fish. However, there are several good fishing areas with lower gradient. Trout densities of up to 1,000 per mile have been recorded in these areas. Neai ly all of the low gradient habitat is k' the Laid! Several anglers in this area have reported catching and releasing 20 or more trout per trip while fishing with flies or lures. The section of the Price River that flows through Helper has a large population of rainbow trout and a few large brown trout. Trout habitat in the Helper Parkway was recently improved by the addition of rock structures that create pools. Popula-- t ion estimates calculated for the area where the structures were placed indicate that 1,100 trout per mile are now present in this section. Let us know about it!
