East Carbon High students were also in attendance at the Space Center the same day. Mont Harmon Jr. High and Westridge Middle Schools attended the following week. The program was funded by the Carbon School District Gifted and Talented program. The following students commented about the program. Erik Houghton The Space Center w as really great. It was very realistic; the sound and voices were like right off a Star Trek episode. We each had jobs to do in order to stay alive. We had a very important mission that had much to do with the environment. We completed our mission and we w'ere successful! It required a lot of team work to win. Tami Colosimo thought the space simulator was great! I had fun and learned a lot. have never been through an experience like that before. It was like it was real, like a virtual reality game. They worked really hard to make it as real as possible, and they definitely had me convinced. I was the captain and it was really stressful having the responsibility of everxones life in my hands, but as stressful as it w as it w as still fun and definitely an experience I wont forget. I 1 Dena Jones 1 Nathan Stevens The space simulator w as great. I f a chance to go again would iihout a hesitation. learned about teamwork and how important it was. The thing liked the best was the Space Simulator, then the Star )ome. then the classroom. The staff did an excellent job at running the Space Camp. The only thing didnt like about the Space Camp was the time we had to spend at the camp. know of another group that went to the camp on a Saturday and spent the whole day there. They went in the Space Simulator five times total each with a different plot. Next time would like to go on a Saturday or a summer day so we can spend more time there. had w I I I Chris H ansen On November 22, 1994, many Helper Jr. High students attended a space simulator at Central Elemen I RopE SemInar USS Voyager Fmgage! A slight forward lunge, and the USS Voyager begins its present quest for the unknown in space. Can it be that the USS Voyager (a Galaxy Class Starship similar to the Enterprise of Star T rek fame) really exists? The answer of course is No, but during the time spent in the space simulator at the Christa McCauliff Space Science Center in Pleasant Grove, 30 students had the feeling that it did. These students from Helper Jr. High were invited to participate in the Space Simulator experience. Captain Tami Colosimo led the crew through seemingly impossible situations. While the task of the crew was to accomplish the main mission, many other situations of somewhat lesser importance were taking place at the same time. Every member of the crew' had to give their best in order to win in the simulation. Many students were pushed beyond their normal reactions- - many felt so much stress during the simulation, that it was hard to convince themselves that it wasnt real. Afterward, the comment given by almost every member of the crew was Awesome! Lets do it again! Other activities during the day at the Space Center were numerous hands-o- n problem-solvin- g activi- ties and time in the Space Dome, a I I I At the space simulator had a good time. The ROPES seminar has proven to be an exciting and effective leadership seminar available to schools in the district.
