Show Tuesday, September 28, 1993 Experts discuss rural family support needs On Saturday, Sept. 25, parents, educators and social service professionals met at the College of Eastern Utah to discuss services available to families with handicapped members. The conference came at the end of the week declared by Gov. Michael Leavitt as Family Support Week in Rural Utah. The declarations intent was to heighten public awareness of the support systems available to families with special needs members. The conference was addressed by authorities in the field of family support services, including Dr. Ric Zah aria, director of Services for People with Disabilities; Dr. Ste-va- n Kukic, director of Special Education Services; and Senators Mike Dmitrich and Alarik Myrin. CEU bers later served under important issues was the need for more information. The conference was designed to meet that need. In 1993, the Eastern Region received $78,000 in additional family support funding, which doubled the money allocated the previous year. This additional financial support provided a summer program for Petersen after he accepted the position as president of the eastern Utah.
