Show REMARKS jai y f elder EZRA T bexson BENSON tabernacle monday mornin april 7 1862 1562 REPORTED BY 1 V LONG I 1 have the privilege of making a few remarks to my brethren and sisters upon the condition that I 1 stop speaking or pumping when the pond is out this may seem a singular introduction but I 1 feel perfectly free and at home when I 1 meet with you in general conference I 1 have enjoyed myself very much during this conference and I 1 I 1 really feel that we have been well instructed in the great principles of our holy religion I 1 am fu ly satisfied that oar ear brethren who have spoken from this st at nd have laid before us the things that we need and especial ly for the benefit of those that are laboring in the different portions of utah or aa s I 1 was about to say in different portions of deseret I 1 am proud of the name of oe being a saint of god for there ia something that is sweet there is something that I 1 is glorious i ous about it 1 I rejoice that we have ehg the e orr privilege here in deseret of 0 naming our orvn olva children when they are born boin it is not so in the nations of the earth but here se we hare have organized a state government govern anent the child chill is born and we have given it a name aud and it is one of our own choosing we are a blessed people how a are r e we blessed this morning morn ina lna we are blessed ly by being taught of the lord loid we are instructed in those things that pertain to our peace we are pos ed in those heavenly principles that have been eo so plainly aid laid ald before ra f they ar re things that immediately concern us as saints at ts of the most nigh high if we have gathered here to these valleys of the mountains to be taught ot of the lord if we do not hairo the spirit of ot humility how can we be aught 9 and ifa if we e ard are taug taught b t w what bat hat g good od o d will wilt it do us we require requite to be in that etite elite of mind that will render us all iti susceptible of instruction st then at the close con arence we shall bhail shall all have it to iby ily ry that we have ben be n well paid for coming together to worship the lord and we shall also feel that the teachings and instruct i tris ns have been applicable to our organizations and circumstances in the different departments of the holy priesthood which the almighty has conferred upon his servants in these last days I 1 feel that it is indeed good to be here it is good to listen usten arto dwell arid and rejoice in the midst of this people for this is the work of the ibe lord and we are the only people upon the face of the earth that are so high y favored at the present time we can me t together in peace as we are doing today to day and worship god according to the dictates of our own consciences yest here we can do this where the true liberty guaranteed in the constitution ution of the united staten states is fully canned cabied out oct and extended to all people who wish to reside in our community I 1 feel to take up the admonitions and treasure them up in my mind and carry them home in my bosom every time that I 1 come to a conference I 1 can see eee where I 1 can do a little better and discover where I 1 have been a little slothful in regard to the duties of my calling you are aware that I 1 hail from the north lern ern part of our flourishing territory cache vaclev a d I 1 am really proud of the county and of the people who live there and of the desire they have to aid and assist in building up this kingdom with reference to the quor quorums tims of high priests and seventies I 1 have to say that we have them with us and we try to make them a blessing to the people we have he piety the principles and order of the gospel amon among us and I 1 feel that such doctrine as was taught yesterday Is a blessing to the people who bear heal beamand and I 1 know it but where peole are trying to get all the honor influence and power to themselves it is then a detriment instead of a biess bless blessing in g well then it be haveth ua us as elders pr presidents e and bishops to lay these principles to robeart heart beart and have them rivet ted to our minds to ie I e down and sleep and wake up again with them fresh in our minds in the morning and go f rth attending to the duties required of US asoy by our callings in the priesthood and then we will profit by these in do not let us allow thoe wholesome teachings to go in at one ear and out of the other I 1 do not wish to male make many remarks this morning but I 1 eel feel truly thankful to god and my brethren that I 1 hold a standing in this tuis kingdom and I 1 intend to labor arid and do al I 1 can for the spread of truth and strive to the best of my ability to endure unto the end and may roay this be our happy position and desire ia is th sincere prayer of you brother in ibb ibe new coyt covenant nant nani in the rame iame of jesus amen |
