It was found that two bottles of chemicals had been improperly disposed of in a trash compacter. One of the bottles contained ammonia, and the other had Chlorine in it. When the bottles were compacted the chemicals mixed and caused the reaction. There was some odor and fumes as a result of this action. Upon investigation by employees, two of them were exposed to the vapors. Both of these subjects were transported to the hospital to be checked out for there safety. The store was evacuated for the safety of the other employees as well as the patrons in the store. There were no other injuries reported at this time. The Ephraim Fire Department, Sevier School District Information Regarding Notice of Proposed Tax Increase Sevier School District is publishing the Notice of the Proposed Tax Increase which is next to this advertisement as required by law under the Truth in Taxation rules and regulations. The Districts current tax rate is .007470 for the Fiscal Year ended June 30, 2004 and the District is proposing to decrease its total tax levy to .007135 for the Fiscal Year ended June 30, 2005. The Truth in Taxation advertisement is required because the District is lowering its current debt service levy. The Debt Service levy is exempt from the Certified Tax Rate rules and regulations, while the other District levies require advertisement under Truth in Taxation. The District is raising its 10 of Basic Levy from .001087 to .001281, its Capital Outlay Levy from .000402 to .000424 and initiating the new Board Approved K-- 3 Reading Program Levy of .000121, which was established by the legislature during the 2004 session. This Reading Program Levy will provide $95,000 of local funding, which the State of Utah will match with $205,000. These funds are targeted toward the improvement of reading education in grades K-- 3 and are restricted for their specified purpose. These new funds will provide a full time literacyreading coach in four of our elementaries and provide for additional intervention help for students who need extra help. All these levies mentioned are not exempt under the Certified Tax Rate rules and regulations, and require the District to advertise a proposed tax increase, even though the tax rate for the upcoming year is less than the previous year by approximately 4.48. This decrease in the rate reduces the taxes on the average home in Sevier County of $90,000 by $16.58 and on a commercial property with the same value by $30.15, assuming there has not been a change in the assessed valuation. The District will collect approximately an amount equal to the amount of taxes collected last year, as you can see in the ad next to this advertisement, the decrease to taxpayers comes from the growth in the assessed valuation accounting for the decrease in the tax rate, but still collecting the same total amount of property taxes. The District is decreasing its overall tax rate by .000335 or 4.48 for the upcoming tax year. If you would like more information regarding the changes in the tax rate, please attend the public hearing at 6:00 PM, Sevier School District Office, 195 East 500 North, Richfield on August 1 1 , 2004. 17-2- 1. k, 4-- er 1 N danna sun SEVIER SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION HOLDS A TRUTH IN TAXATION HEARING TO SET THE TAX RATE FOR FY 2005 The Sevier School District Board of Education has set a Truth in Taxation hearing on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at 6 p.m. in the Sevier School District Office at 1 95 East 500 North, Richfield, Utah. sPatrick D. NOTICE OF PROPOSED TAX INCREASE The Sevier School District is proposing to increase its property tax revenue. As a result of the proposed increase, the tax on a $90,000 residence will be $353.18 and the tax on a business having the same value as the average value of a residence in the taxing entity will be $642.15. Without the proposed increase the tax on a $90,000 residence would be $337.44, and the tax on a business having the same value as the average value of a residence in the taxing entity would be $61 3.53. The 2004 proposed tax rate is .007135. Without the proposed increase the rate would be .006817. This would be an increase of 4.66, which is $15.74 per year ($1.31 per month) on a $90,000 residence or $28.62 per year on a business having the same value as the average value of a residence in the taxing entity. With NEW GROWTH, this property tax increase and other factors, Sevier School District will increase its property tax revenue from $4,692,348 collected last year to $4,698,035 COLLECTED THIS YEAR WHICH IS A REVENUE INCREASE OF 0.12.
