Water projects dominated Salina city discussion by Maxine Monroe The City Council was brought up to date on the progress, of the water system by John Chartier of Sunrise Engineering. The project is on schedule despite the many changes needed as the work is completed. The water committee would like to see the lines increased from the current to eight, ten, or twelve, depending on the use. As a greater compacity is needed in some zones for future building, pipe to handle the greater compacity is going to be needed and many feel it should be done with this construction. These concerns were greatly discussed with many decisions needed. The council will continue to review the needs, receive costs and make the final decisions after the coordinating is completed. The council is well aware of the future needs to the city and will manage the changes and work for the distant foreseeable future. Where fire hydrants are most needed was reviewed by the council and the cost to be figured into the final analysis. Several questions were discussed among the members to assure the need is met within the proposed cost. six-in- CRC finals Repair to broken asphalt and water elevation for the lay ofthe land will reviewed by Jim Reynolds to assure that all upgrades will be designed for future trouble. Another water adjustment was made as it seemed the meter malfunctioned or was misread. The floor was given to Mark Denny of Twin D Inc., a sewer and drainage service. He reported his findings on the status of the sewer system. He informed the council that the sewer is in need of fairly serious attention in the near future. He further stated that maintenance is a quick fix and was impressed with the work done by city crews but still it is going to require some major cleaning and repair. The flow is being slowed enough so as not to push sewage properly. He explained, with as much data as possible, the problems that are now current and the problems for the future if repair is not done. He offered data for future repair of upgrading. It seems most of the system is over 40 years old with pipe, much of the old pipe has shifted, sand and gravel are a main enemy, and not enough tolerance in the six inch pipe. The council will meet to review budget for this project and discuss a major sewer repair. For now, the cleaning and maintenance will continue. It was brought to the councils attention that the door to the Pamela is being left open and could be a danger to anyone going in. The cemetery project wi II not apply for grant money as it will be a local project. $ ,047 has been spent so far on the improvements, and donations are being received well. Short term improvements were reviewed concern ing the park and complex, playground equipment, baseball diamond and the side walk. It was stated that money is in place for some things on the improvements. The playground equipment should be in place by July 4, 1999. The culinary water lines and well should be complete by December 1999. Maintenance care increase and planting clean trees was 1 reviewed. (See Aurora on Page 2) Redmond pays Sunrise for water project by Maxine Monroe The gavel banged on the table and the Redmond Town meeting was called to order by Mayor Ron Allred. Kelly Johnson offered the prayer. John Chartier, Sunrise Engineering, reported the water project is close to completion and on time. New lines have been tested and there are no leaks. A pay request was presented and approved. He requested that a of the project be done in the next couple of weeks and the final accep tance papers and the 0 contingency fund be taken care of at the next board meeting. He was asked to explain the warranty on the project and informed the board it is valid for one year from the completion date and that a is then needed at that time also. Motion was carried to purchase a line locator, a phone dialer, and some galvanized connections. After some informative discussion, motion was approved for extra asphalt to be laid on some intersections. The bid on the work is the same but will allow for the quantity of needed asphalt. Allred will coordinate the help needed to install 200 feet of chain link fencing around the old well. The occupancy of a small trailer being lived in without sewer hook ups was discussed and a mot ion was carried to allow the occupancy to remain for another six months, providing the sewage is disposed of properly, after which which the Senior Division was run. Checks were paid each go for eight places in the 3 Divisions, and awards were given to the top eleven places in the average of all three runs in each division. Our NBHA District 02 contestants also did an outstanding job. In the first-g-o Destiny Shaw placed 8th in the 1st Division (ID). According to the National Barrel Horse Association rules, if a barrel racer knocks over a barrel shehe receives a no time. This puts them out of the running for the average awards. To make the average more interesting, there was a tie for the 3 D st place saddle, In thia case, the saddle would have gone to the most money won during the race, but neither contestant had won money. It came down to a tie breaking run for the saddle. Both Autumn Keller and Lori Purdy stepped up to the pressure and ran good, clean runs in a tough situation.
