Show January 1 5, 1 997 Salina SunGunnison Valley News Page 3 Sesquicentennial Tour of Utah set for Mormon Tabernacle Choir The famed Mormon Tabernacle Choir has scheduled a tour of Utah to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Mormon pioneers in the Great Salt Lake Valley. The 1997 Sesquicentennial Tour will include concerts in the Salt Lake City, Cedar City, St. George, Ephraim, Logan, Price, Vernal, Provo and Ogden, according to Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Council of Twelve Apostles, who is chairman of the Sesquicentennial Committee for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The Ephraim concert is scheduled for May 16 at the Snow College Activity Center. A General Authority of the Church will make brief remarks at each of the performances, Elder Ballard said. The musical program for the tour will reflect the states pioneer heritage, said Wendell Smoot, Choir president. The program will be under the direction of music director Jerold Ottley and his associate, Craig Jessop. Announcer for the concerts will be Lloyd Newell, who also appears with the Choir on its weekly radiotclevision broadcasts form the Tabernacle on Salt Lake Citys Temple Square. The concerts will be free to the public, Smoot said, but in most cases, tickets w ill be required. Ticket information w ill be announced at a later date.
