Chamber members Johnson reports on legislative session Representative Brad Johnson of Aurora spoke to the North Sevier Area Chamber of Commerce at its monthly meeting at Shaheens Restaurant on Thursday, April 4, 1996. Johnson spoke about the accomplishments of the legislature during its session in January. Johnson told the Chamber that according to a survey distributed through the area newspaper, most residents wanted to see something done on the areas of education, transportation and tax cuts. Johnson said that some of the legislature wanted a $150 million cut in property tax, but after some debate a compromise of $ 1 00 million was settled. $40 million will be in property tax and $50 million in income tax. This cut change the income tax rate from 7.2 percent to 7.0 percent. Johnson also touted a bill he sponsored that grants a tax credit to persons who buy their own health insurance. Those who were on a group plan were already getting this credit, said Johnson.
