Thanks to die Sevier School Maintenance crew and to A1 Taylor, of Taylors Sound and Light, who worked long hours to help us upgrade the technical aspects of our auditorium, which had been short of our needs. Thanks to NSMS, and especially to Denise DeMille and Newell Chappell, for sharing their expertise with us. We could not have accomplished the visual joy without the genius of our costume crew: Ivanna Stowe, Margaret Nordfelt, and Ronda Huntsman. We appreciate the cooperation of Jay Elliott, Kim Sorenson, Barretts, Stubbs, Salina City, Sho Time Video, Redmond Clay and Salt, Utah Power and Light, Gunnison Thriftway, Sevier County Fairboard, KMTI, KSVC, Salina Sun, Richfield Reaper, Anderson Lumber and Savers Foodtown in Gunnison. We also express appreciation to the faculty and staff of North Sevier High School for helping us pursue this dream. And, finally, we would like to thank our families for their support during both the stress times and the good times. Their faith and encouragement, indeed, kept us going. Although it isnt the greatest education building for the 90s Losee said, the building is in pretty nice shape in general for a building that age, and is not a safety hazard. It is a typical western school floor plan, and the square footage available in it would be hard to duplicate. PTA president Maryleen Naser said her 16 member board is in favor of demolishing the building for safety and health reasons. She said allergies and other respiratory illness have occurred in students and staff due to dust from pigeon droppings in the attic which blow through the build- ing. She also said there were rumors about bare wires in the basement and water on floors, but Losee reported that during his inspection he saw no bare wires or moisture. The board then made the final selection. Superintendent Brent Thome reminded the board and the members of the North Sevier personnel committee that since the acceptance of the delegation document, the district has adopted a new personnel hiring policy to comply 'with new laws. This policy is a guideline for preventing abuses in the hiring process. Dr. Thome said personnel tor Jerry Hawley will help the council prepare for the interview process. Mason and Chappell agreed that their committee would follow the pattern used by South Sevier and Richfield last year. operation of the school Hiring of personnel is included in the document, but the council and the board met to discuss weather the hiring of a principal is the same as hiring classified or certified personnel. Although the school board has certain responsibilities it is legally required to take, it can delegate, as it has done with North Sevier, some of the responsibilities in the day to day operation of the school. Because management is still so new to the Sevier School District, the board and the school community councils need to discuss and iron out procedural details. In the principal selection process that took place last year at South include the removal and replacing of the existing guardrail. Bids were submitted by nine contractors with the apparent low bidder being Cox Rock Products of Centerfield at $5,514,795.15. The official engineers estimate was $6,364,246.
