Show Page Pour Friday, October SOUTH CACHE COURIER Hyrum Man Dies In Salt Lake Hospital Funeral services for Orson and during his training for the army he has taken every opportunity to work in the church where it was possible, and was happiest when he was with the saints. Earl was a great favorite with Benson, 59, lifelong resident of Hyrum, who died Thursday night in a Salt Lake hospital, will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Hyrum First ward chapel. Mr. Benson died following a lengthy illness. He was bom May 12, 1833, in Hyrum, a son of Moroni and Martha Phillips Benson. Surviving are six sisters and one brother, Mrs. Martha J. Anderson, Mrs. Margaret Williams, Mrs. Laura Wray, Mrs. Ella Stanton, Effie and Milton Benson of Hyrum; Cynthia Nebeker of Shoshone, Idaho and Mrs. Caddie Rex of Randolph. Burial will be in the Hyrum cemetery under direction of the Thompson Funeral home. First class Private Stanley Carlson of the radio division of the U. S. Sizes for everyone, 9 to 42. tones. v On August 22, 1942 Earl was married to Miss Constance Van Frank of Newburgh, New York, in the L.D.S. temple at Mesa Arizona. On August 27 his parents received word that Earl had graduated from the Williams Army Hying school, for twin engine pilots, at Chandler, Arizona, and made a Lieutenant in the air corps of the army. After graduating the young couple left for Riverside, Calif., and from there to Everett Wash. After one week there Earl was transferred to Glendale Calif., where they were settled for six weeks combat while he took special training in the 8 planes. October 23, Earl had just come from the flight line and was called into the field headquarters and given 3 hours to prepare to leave. He phoned his parents at midnight that he would be transferred to the east coast by plane and go by way of Salt Lake. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Wilson Jr., and son Leonard left Hyrum immediately. The plane arrived at 5:30 a.m. stopping for 20 minutes in which they had an enjoyable but brief visit. He was feeling fine and enjoying his work and training. He wired his folks the follwoing day from N. Y. but hasnt learned his "destination yet. Earl is well known in the community here for his jovial disposition and his activity in the church. He has taken part in the M.I.A. dramas and one act plays before going on his mission and has taken active part in the missionary class in Sunday school.
