FOR THE FUTURE PLANNING Newest Creation in Planning for the future is one of the important activities of chain food stores at the present time. Among these plans 'is one suggested by the Agricultural Council of-- the National Association of Food Chains, which has immense potentialities for public- service. Under this plan, the chains would take an active interest in clubs and other vocational work among farm youth. The chains would obtain lists of entries in the stock: shows put on by these young farmers. They wbuld purchase animals, paying a premium for them in and, addition, purchase other animals of near-priz-e caliber. Purpose of such work would be t oencourage vocational agriculture, to publicize the achievements of the young men and women exhibiting livestock, to improve the practices and public standing fo the clubs, and to give meat to local premium people, many of whom previously not meat have of the first quality. tasted may If this plan is put into effect it will, to a large extent, do for the farmer of the future what the chains, through their producer-consumcampaigns, have been and are the farmer of today. It would bring to public doing for attention the splendid work club members are doing in breeding and improving livestock, and would obviously inspire the youngsters to greater achievements. This is one more logical step in a widespread program by which modern business methods cooperate with and serve agricultural America.
