Stockmen i i I Twelve thousand nine hundred notices to owners of recorded brands and four thousand five hundred eighty notices to owners of recorded marks were mailed last summer by the State Board of Agriculture, Recordsaid Ed. T. Jones, er of Marks and Brands, calling attention to the fact that all owners of livestock within the State of Utah shall within one year from May 15, 1921, send into the Recorder of Marks and Brands all recorded marks and brands used by them. Ex-Offic- io As a measure of relief to livestock owners who have suffered from the widespread depression in the cattle and sheep industry, the Secretary of Agriculture, on the recommendation of the Forest Service, ha3 waived the requirement that grazing fees on stock using National Forest ranges be paid 30 days in advance of the beginning of the grazing period. Under the new regulation stockmen this year. will be permitted topay .the amount of fees due in two installments, first payment to be made on or before the date the stock enters the National Forest, and final payment on or before December I, 1922, without interest on the deferred amount. Grazing permits will be issued at the time of first payment, but each permit will contain a stipulation that failure to make final settlement by December 1, will be cause for the reference, to- getherwiththe institution of legal action for the collection of the value of the forage consumed. k In 1921 over 38,000 owners grazed 2,129,500 cattle and horses, and 7,455,600 sheep and goats largely in the National Forests of the Western States. Similar endorsements have previously been given by the majority of state executives and by President Harding. In a letter to Charles V. Vickrey, 151 Fifth avenue.
