G. Peterson. The College aims to adapt itseff perfectly to the practical needs of the people, states president Peterson. We tend, today, to speak of the wonders of our city life, of Hie magnificient features of our urban civilization. Wonderful as it undoubtedly is we must not forget that it has been made possible because of sound rural development. The rural .community must always remain as the Hbasis of civilization. The trend from the farm to the city must stop. The recent improvements in agricultural methods making the fanm more profitable, the recent bettering of rural economic and social conditions making farm life more pleasant have done much to stop the movement from farm to city. The great part played in this fundamental change in conditions by the agricultural schools of the country should not be minimized. In fact the agricultural colleges hav? done more for civilization than any other single movement of which we have record. -- The Utah Agricultural College has three important functions in fulfilling its mission of service to the people. In developing the West it must subdue the physical resources, aid in the education of the entire people, and traip leaders. , T r r ' ' r"r'vL , ' v 4 iL . i X t J; n, College Fits " Needs of Peopl i i- continued until Thursday night, and nearly blockading all traffic. The 0. S. L. was blockaded in Bear River Canyon on account of snowslides and heavy snows, stopping all traffic for two days or more. The O. L. & I. met nearly the same fate on the divide between Cache and Colling-stothe heavy wind that was blowing piling the snow into drifts from 20 to 30 feet deep, and which made it very difficult to make any progress in clearing the track. In fact one car .ran off. the track in trying to plow through the deep snow. On both lines big forces of men were employed, and worked hard for 48 hours to clear the track and restore traffic. However, on Wednesday night traffic on both lines was somewhat restored and cars and trains were able to get, through, and Cache Valley, having practically been shut out for two days, was once more in communication with the outside world. Yet through it all, South Cache has been quite fortunate, and while many incidents of a serious nature are reported from" different parts of the county and state, nothing serious is reported from the effects of the recent heavy storm, in this part of Cache valley.
