Show IN MINNESOTA winona Wl nona minn april 19 1898 I 1 left salt labb city on september 1897 for the northern states mission arriving at chicago sunday the ath M in company with elder beauer who w N going to ohio his home being beang in tw that lo caHty the weather wea ther was waa very warm and suffocating fo to in chicago I 1 met elder melach and wife elder burton and several other elders at the office and on attending meeting met with many of the monday being abeln labor day the parks parka awe te filled filed with people who were w resting themselves vee under the treese and ing the fresh lake breeze breexe the lincoln park is a beautt beautiful ful place where there are many species of wild animals the perrin wheel tit at the northwestern part of the park affords affords a noe nee view of the lake and city elder cook and myself viewed the city and lake from this wheel and then visited the park tuesday there was an excursion froma from chicago Chic agro across the lake to st joseph michigan the lake was ealm with scarcely warvely a ripple of a wave except that caused by the vessel we spent several hours viewing the town and seeing the sights about 6 5 in the evening the boat st started arted back with its load of or passengers on board the moon came up and shone full on the rippling water it was a beautiful sight the evening being pleasants pleasant the deck was crowded with people who enjoyed themselves in the open air I 1 was assigned to labor with elder cook and we took our departure next evening for litchfield meeker county minnesota arT arriving iving at 12 the next day the day following we walked 10 miles out into the country to see some folks whom brother cook had been asked to visit we were treated kindly while there we then returned to litchfield where we met a whom we ve had a long talk with he gave us the address of the elders in minneapolis next day we returned to minneapolis where we met elder W J harrison and elders anderson hansen seimons seamons dark clark and peterson Pei tereon there were some very good meet ings held on the street till the weather got too cold and we were compelled to abandon the streets we then hired a hall at labor temple with but little or no success conference was waa held at the masonic temple in january when I 1 was appointed to labor with elder harrison we labored there till the 3rd ard of march when we came to winona and held a series of meetings there were but few who came out to hear us we then went to beaver some twenty miles northwest of this city to visit some friends where we held a series of meetings with a good house full every evening we made many friends 0 we were then called back to the city by elder sheets who had been appointed to take elder harrisons place as president of the minnesota conference elder harrison received permission to visit his relatives in pennsylvania and elder butler and myself were left to labor in winona and vicinity the people are not very free to open houses for the elders to speak in but we have succeeded in getting some few there to is considerable prejudice that we have to contend with the news to is a welcome visitor every week tose having relatives in this locality ca lity and are desirous of having them visited will please send names and addresses to elders ANDREW DUDLEY L BUTLER JR W sanborn st winona minn |
