Show SNAKE VALLEY FILLMO IELA oct 29 1896 I 1 recently took a mission to the western portion of this stake namely to snake valley and faunt onto one mouth in ID the labor I 1 am 74 years of ape age ind took lor for my companion in the work elder bluer allen alien russell Rusi ell aged 72 years this Is a very large county and we abb trips in a one norae borne buggy required four days to reach tho valley which Is ie about sixty silly miles long oo 00 13 the fourth day irom from home we had two high mountains to climb up a narrow canyon road and then a long desert to cross without water at noon it being very warm our horses would not eat and it looked as though trouble e would overtake us ue but providence wiled smiled upon us for within a short distance of where wo camped we discovered a bucket filled with water this was given to our animal and be then ale and was refreshed sufficient clent to enable us to journey on in safety we afterwards after learned that thai the water had been left by a mail driver his horse borse reusing re it a thing that he had never done before this thin simple incident doubtless saved us from being left on the desert without food or shelter and we acknowledge leage the band of the lord lu in it we made our headquarters to in snake valey at sir ar james robison Bubi sous who la Is a son of uncle l peter robison of corn creek there are but low lew members of the church to in that part of the county and consequently we found no meeting house or sunday action the residences are mostly scattered ranches many of which we and told lold the nature of out our visit to that hat part of the county which wat wa to do good in preaching thu the gospel of jesus christ we had bad many interesting talks at the homes of the people there and were led fed aud and given comfortable lodging as we moved from place tu to place we also hold held a number of meetings by appointment and ana some of the people traveled miles to attend and hear bear us expound the gospel gapol we also organized a sunday school which we think thick will do muon good in laying the foundation of truth and a desire to learn it in the minds of the young in bat abat vicinity snake valley is a very fertile part of this stake crops are abundant and the markets for everything are good where all abe people treated us with uniform kind kindness noes it is not ned necessary essary to mention individual names we left our blessings with them one brother gave us twenty dollars tor for ward pur purposes pokes and promises of move more in due time lime others gave us ua a dollar ibach each and with the little dons dona eions we received we paid for our accommodation where they charged for it on the way to and from snake valley and arrived home borne at fillmore ilmore Fl with a few cents in our poc lockete kete thus thug we were able to travel like those of old eld 46 without purse puree or 1 1 and if so directed we hope to make other visits to our good friends in that part of the country JOHN ASHMAN RUSSELL |
