mass of cuts and bruises and other parts of his body had also suffered from the kicks received he was taken to the st marks hospital where an examination revealed the fact that no bones were broken although he had suffered upwards of fifty or dixy kicks from the ma maddened animal mr cannon is now resting as easy as possible but it will be some weeks yet perhaps months before he will be himself again A great misfortune has befallen the little town of payson and the people there are plunged into the d deepest grief on yesterday morning tour four young ladies lucy keele aged 19 emma keele aged 16 susie neele heele aged 16 15 all of payson and miss bauer aged 17 of Ho mansville homansville went to utah lake tor for the purpose of bathing and for a general good time the girls were accompanied by mr john keele the father of three of them and edi ward keele a brother full of mirth and gleeful a anticipation for the days outing the girls all went into the lake together and took along a big plank as an aid to safety all ali were sporting and splashing around in the water when one of the girls lost her hold bold on the piece of lumber and appeared to be in danger when the other three made a frantic effort to give their companion assistance in a moment all were excited and between grasping for the first girl and holding to each other all four of them went down and were drowned in sight night of the father and son who were near the wagon some distance from the shore both men rushed to the assistance si of the girls but were too late to save them immediately edward rushed to payson and communicated the painful news to the inhabitants who were terror stricken upon hearing of the fearful occurrence wagon loads of people rushed to the shore of utah lake and aided in prosecuting a search for the bodies which was commenced at once in the meantime one body was found and brought to shore by her father two were found between seven and eight by this time aboul a hundred men and boys had come to the assistance of theten the ten who were first there and after diligent searching found the fourth body at p m all arrived in payson about this morning i the mother of ahe the three girls has been sick all summer and was unable to accompany them to the lake she was taken to a neighbors house to remain until after her girls were brought brough t home she was told toward evening that one of her girls was drowned and after the bodies were laid out at the family residence the mother was told the whole truth and taken home she looked at them thein in silence and has not since given vent to her feelings the e parents of miss bauer were aiellio wired the sad intelligence and came ork on the rio grande western this morning to payson it is not yet decided when the funeral will be the whole town is in deep grief and the bereaved families have the heartfelt sympathy of the people from THURSDAYs DAILY JULY 21 manager T R cutler who has been north for several days visiting the sugar factory which is being erected at la grande ore returned home saturday says the lehi banner he is very pleased with the progress sw being made in the erection of the factory and the placing of the machinery the mason work of the building ia nearly done and the building will oft be complete in time for this years run he says mr granger who Is the superintendent has men employed at the factory at playing theater on the front porch of the family residence one of the larger boys had a 22 caliber rifle and had pulled the slugs out of the cartridges and placing paper wads in had fired over the heads of the other childen the children were playing that some 0 of f them were spaniards and the rest were american soldiers they had been playing some time when their blank shells gave out and the boys loaded two more with soap instead of the paper wadding and the gun was loaded and handed to cecil gates a lad about 11 years of age two little girls beulah being one were representing spaniards and the boys were storming the spanish forts the little girls commenced to run and when a bout about ten feet from cecil the latter took sight with the rifle and fired little beulah staggered and ran through the house to one of the back rooms followed follow bd by her playmates neighbors rushed in h 4 attracted by the childrens cries and found the little girl kneeling saying her prayers she was
