year in the history of utah and the west the product of the lehl lehi factory is comparatively speaking enormous more than ten million pounds of the sacca hartne product will be turned out about halt half of that amount has already been produced the will occupy the time of the factory until about the first of the year the splendid crop and the very good showing made by the factory together with the sale of one hundred and fifty thousand dollars of bonds taken by zions savings bank and the deseret national bank seventy five thousand each has greatly stiffened the price of the stock there being dally daily demands for it upon the open opa market the indications point to it becoming one of the best beat class ot of securities in the state within the near future the oad eh factory as done much better atef this year the first of its existence than did the lehi factory during its first years run the reason for this is that it has had the benefit of the formers experience when engaged practically in experimental work its product will be about four million pounds or 40 per cent of that produced by the lehl lehi factory the oregon factory in which ogden people and capitalists are largely interested will turn out about two million pounds it is also the first year of that institution it has a good many obstacles of one character and another to contend against at the outset but it is now in a fair way to become a heavy producer it is expected to do much better next year than this justice miner delivered an opinion today concurred in by chief justlee justice zane awl afternoon elder grant says that the saints in that section of af the country have raised good crops crop this year and are in a fairly prosperous condition they have reclaimed thousands of acres of land that a few years ago was considered practically worthless the reclamation has been made through the means of sub irrigation instead of irrigating as they formerly did and as the farmers banners of utah now do they simply run large streams of water through their land once in the early spring edme and as there is a hard pan formation a short distance below the soll soil the water prec through sufficiently to keep moist for the remainder of the season and produce a good crop in this way labor to is great ly reid reduced and farming made much more profitable as the time originally employed in making three or tour four irrigations ions ioas can be devoted to something else the altitude is considerably higher than here being feet only a few shade trees grow and no fruit trees this gives the country more or less of a barren and dreary appearance yet it is fast being reclaimed and is becoming productive and a good place to live in A great amount of grain tens of thousands of bushels and plenty of potatoes are being raised when the mormon first commenced settling in that section of country it was believed to be profitable for only stock raising purposes but that idea has now been completely dissipated james morgan a silver city utah miner died suddenly at the clift house this morning dr DC kerr was called by the proprietor of the hotel but refused to sign the death certificate
