| Show STAKE conference REPORTS san juan stake the regularly quarterly conference of at the san juan stake was held in mancos colorado august 20 21 and 22 im 1898 I 1 there were present elders brigham towns of the apostles elder george reynolds prof willard done four missionaries nales from utah of the stake presidency elders P F A hammond I 1 wm S balls and P D lyman also a good representation of the high council officers of the stake organizations and bishops of the several wards the e reports of the bishops showed a prosperous ous condition among the people better crops than ever before except that of bluff that on account of fall fail mg to control the water the range 1 is good stock of all kinds doing well and demand good prices the sabbath school relief society T y 31 and Y L M I 1 A and primary each held a meeting prom from the reports riven given they were shown to be in a maltby healthy condition especially that of OW sabbath schools sc bools which Is claimed to asbe be the loveliest bee in the hive at a meeting keetin set apart for the sabbath schools elder elder george reynolds of the sunday school board instructed the seers officers and tead teachers hers on their duties A portion of his time was given to answering questions prof willard dones remarks were principally directed to the young mens improvement associations he was pleased to hear of the progress of the sabbath schools but wanted it understood that the young mn men were to run seek neck and neck in the race of well do ins inc cader robert white of the colorado mission and elders robinson butler as regular members of the high council on sunday afternoon elder lyman proposed to the conference that joseph S horne home counselor to elder W H R be ordained a patriarch the vote in favor of his ordination was u unanimous nand and he was ordained and ana set apart to this office by elder anthon H lund the annabella choir furnis furnished bed the singing at the meetings the first day of conference and on sunday the richfield choir assisted by members of the choirs of monroe glenwood and annabella furnished the singing the work on our stake tabernacle la Is progressing finely the work on the towers cornice and roof will soon be completed and it wil be a great credit to this stake when it is completed which will be according to contract about december 1 this year and we anticipate a grand and glorious time at its dedication according to reports given during conference the people of this Stake sare rare blessed this year with abundant crops both of hay bay and grain and in some places there are good crops of fruit also s 0 the people have had a foretaste this season of what reservoirs kolrs will do tot for them and they are straining every nerve to complete the plants already commenced so as to hold back all the water possible during the fall and winter months in order to have a better bettel supply next season SIMON christensen stake clerk snowflake stake on the and of august 1898 the people of snowflake stake held their quarterly conference in the stake house in snowflake ward the presidency nf of the stake the majority of the high council and bishops were in attendance there was also I 1 of the saints a good attendance I 1 good feelings seemed to prevail and much valuable instruction was given I 1 the sacrament was administered and the authorities both local and general were sustained by the unanimous vote of the conference the bishops reports indicated a very fair condit condition ibn of fellowship and rather an unusual degree of prosperity glood one and many valuable instructions were given by our leading brethren elder thomas th omas chamberlain having taken elders lyman and anderson as far on ahelf way borne bome as john seams at representation of bishops and stake officers elder willis E robison made maae the opening remarks in which re referred to the prosperous financial condition of the saints in wayne stake the abundant harvest and the healthy spiritual condition of the people he spoke briefly of the great missionary work being carried on the nations of the earth the thurber lyman loa Cal neville giles and teasdale wards were reported in good condition by the respective pr siding officers bishop M W mansfield elder michael hanson bishops W lib hanks levi lev C white and george colo cole I 1 man all of whom bore testimony to gods work and gave exhortation to the saints elder hans M hansen addressed the conference referring to the tendency of the human race to forget god and live for the gratification ot of the sensual desires and appetites and also to the mission of the latter day saints to serve god and sacrifice everything for the promotion and benefit of gods god work bishop alett E maxfield was the
