(s' Oi SETHNS A MOOD: With both photos and poetry Gerry Spence reads from his latest book Thursday at the Davis County Library South Branch in Bountiful Renowned as a lawyer author and legal commentator he also i J j i spoke about his views on current events i- JERRY SWOPE staff Standard-Examin- Spence: ‘Hard times and good times’ Renowned lawyer author makes stop to talk about newest book By RUTH MALAN Standard-Examin- correspondent BOUNTIFUL - Gerr Spence is not just a lawyer author poet and photographer - he's an entertainer Spence entertained and informed his audience which packed the auditorium at the Davis County Library South Branch Thursday evening making people laugh and feel comfortable with this nationally known defense attorney Dressed in his trademark fringed leather jacket he talked about how his parents influenced his life and about his newest book “Gerry Spence's Wyoming” Spence was part of the library sponsored author program that writers to brings -- well-know- n speak to audiences Spence is recognized nationwide for his powerful courtroom victories including the estate of Karen Silkwood against Kerr-McG- and the defenses of former Philippine First Lady Imelda Marcos and white separatist Randy Weaver He is the author of several books About 20 years ago Spence gave up painting and took up photography His newest book which he said has to do with “being a human being” is filled with black and white photos and depicts what he sees in his home state “There are so many things about us that are so wonderful and different than anyone else who has walked the face of the earth or ever breathed Think of your thumbprint There isn’t another soul in the world like yours you must be the most valuable thing in the world” Spence said His photographs are a sound example of where he was born and how he grew up in Wyoming and about his adult life "No one sees your state quite like you do" Spence said “What is the soul of the state?
