Show OLD FOLKS AT farmington old folks entertainments entertain menta are be edming quite popular in the land to treat the aged to free summer excursions and winter amusements is by no means confined to salt lake county where a well known committee has ham made old folks entertainments as regular as the years roll round Simi similar enjoyments enjoy ments are now being tendered the aged in most of the important cities and towns throughout our entire mountain country where the inhabitants are practical believers in the divine injunction honor thy father and thy mother that thy days may be long upon the land which the lord thy god thee on saturday last the good people 0 of Pax davis county treated their old people to a feast in the farmington opera house four people between the ages of 80 and 90 eighteen loe between tween 70 and 80 and twenty three between CO 60 and 70 were the special guests of the occasion and after being treated to a first class dinner served in the transept or stage part of the opera house an old time dance was indulged in by the veterans who seemed thoroughly to enjoy the quaint and now rather out of date cotillion figures that were so popular in the good old pioneer days remarks of eulogy encourage ment and mirth were made by a number ot of visitors and residents among whom may be mentioned apostle Johnl john W taylor bishop wm B preston george goddard charles R savage wm naylor andrew jenson and president john W hess I 1 musical selections both vocal and instrumental were also rendered boquete were presented to the oldest lady and oldest gentleman present elmira miller aged 87 on the feminine and george goddard 82 years old on the masculine side of the house carried off these tokens of distinction no less than persons were served at thel the tables the most happy and congenial feeling prevailed throughout the entire proceedings and bishop J M who acted as master of ceremonies aided by a host of smiling and ever courteous young ladies and gentlemen vied with each other othe r to bestow attention upon the grey haired veterans and matrons matrona mat rons who have borne the heat and burden of the day so many years the occasion may truly be called a genuine red letter day in the history of the otherwise quiet and modest town of farmington the old folks committee of salt lake city had been specially invited for the occasion ONE OF THE VISITORS |
