Show BE Davis Standard November 23 1999 Tuesday Therapies For Health I Woman celebrates 00 years 1 Her sharp mind remembers this century’s biggest events Washing clothes and taking care of her younger siblings were her main responsibilities in a home that had no electricity and an outhouse as a bathroom Galvez also cleaned and took care of other people’s children for $2 a week The money she earned went directly to her parents for food and clothing “I never knew what fun was” she said “All I ever did while growing up was work to help my father get through I never had a social life when I was a teenager because there was just too much work to be done I never got in trouble or disobeyed my parents because I was too busy” Galvez remembers the time when the government removed the Native Americans from the land where she and her family lived “The government gave the Indians two options - one was to get off the land and two was to move to a reservation” At age 20 she married Fred Galvez on Dec 22 in Colorado and began life as a mother and later a grandmother and By GREG YOUNG Standard-Examin- correspondent OGDEN - Sitting blue rechner at in South Ogden Galvez can recall most of what happened this century “My body is wearing down but my mind is as sharp as when I was a young lady” said Galvez “Even though I quit school in the fourth grade my mind is very SOUTH chfar” Galvez who turned 100 years old last week celebrated her birth cLq with her sons and daughters 48 grandchildren 1 1 1 and 12 along with friends many life-loHer personal secret to happiness and long life?
