four one aged 84 years borri at ab bab sister smyth was suffolk england september baston to utah in emigrated at 1818 and claudius V spencers company in services were conducted in big cottonwood ward house by afternoon bishop D B brinton on wednesday made by remarks were at 2 brinton elders robert bishop william J newman and joseph E of the many good qualities of the deceased and her firm faith in the of the gospel the dedicatory principles inci ples j prayer was offered by bishop D B brinton i BESSIE WHITE bessie wife of marion white departed this life oct 29 1897 at the age of 4 39 years and 11 days deceased was born at milford oakland county michigan and was married to her husband april 29 1880 at the above named place immigrated to salt lake city march 18 1893 with her family was baptized into the church of jesus christ of latter day saints the same month and year she leaves her husband and five children to mourn her loss she was a kind and devoted wife and loving mother and was loved and respected by all who knew her she has been a great sufferer at times for the past seven years with rheumatism and heart trouble she died a faithful saint and rests in peace to come forth in the resurrection to a glorious immortality funeral services were conducted from joseph wm taylors undertaking parlors bishop W J beatie presiding an address was delivered by elder angus M cannon president of the salt lake stake which was full of comfort and consolation to the bereaved family elder D L davis made the closing remarks and prayer was offered by elder W D bowring I 1 wish to return my heartfelt gratitude to all who so kindly assisted us in the time of our late bereavement and humbly ask the lord to bless you all MARION WHITE HANNAH MOON HUNT monroe sevier co oct 29 1897 hannah moon hunt wife of thomas hunt gently passed from this life in the arms of her husband after a short struggle although she had been unwell for some time the day prior to her death she and brother hunt went out for a buggy ride and retired to bed in better than usual health she awakened with pains pain at four in the morning which continued slightly for four hours when she passed away her death occurred on october 22 1897 she was born at denby common derbyshire england was married to thomas hunt dec 25 1847 baptised baptized sed nov 22 1848 at clay cross sheffield conference moved to sunderland newcastle conference in 1852 emigrated in 1855 and settled in altonell Alto nIlL came to utah in 1862 and located at moroni sanpete county where she continued to reside until called upon to settle with the first setlers of sevier county locating in alma now monroe where she has resided ever since with the exception of the time of the vacation caused by the indian dangers and depredations thus she was inured to the hardships of pioneer life in this country her heart was always full of sympathy for the afflicted and she has now gone to receive c her reward her family faintly consisted of ten children five boys and five girls seven of whom and a loving hu husband osband remain to mourn her departure pax ture her children are all married she also leaves forty four death and obsequies of a much respected resident of that place on sunday morning oct 10 at 2 mrs cora maughan wife of james maughan and daughter of mr and mrs P F L wilcox left this frail existence to take up her abode in the eternal world beyond she was a true and noble woman affectionate wife and loving mother her death was very sudden and unexpected although she warned the family repeatedly that they were doing all that could be done but it was of no avail for she was going to die the folks thought she war waa talking out of her head mrs maughan was a young woman and leaves three small children funeral services were held at the preston meeting house monday at 2 pm bishop parkinson presiding he was the first speaker and said 1 I 1 have been acquainted with this sister since she was a child and as a church member she was unequaled for she was one of the best young ladles ladies in the ward always willing to honor any calling that was made of her by those in authority in the church while her husband has been working away from home on the ra railroad I 1 broad she always alway S urged him to pay his tithing and donations in the ward I 1 have visited them when brother maughan worked on the railroad and they lived many miles from here and away from the church and always found them devoted to their god in attending to family prayer brother maughan has cause to rejoice for he is laying away a jewell jewel one who is worthy to receive the blessings in store for the faithful C C west said he had known the departed for seventeen years she was quiet kind and always willing to lend a helping hand to those who needed it wesley becksted asked the blessings of the father upon the bereaved ones he was followed by elder george C pa parkinson of the stake presidency who said saia deceased sister is not dead but abut hasou gone to the world beyond to continue in the work of the lord in a very short time the body will moulder ant decay and return to its mother earth but although the body passes away the elements never die they haver have always existed and always will continue to exist notwithstanding its being separated from the spirit the spirit is eternal and has gone like dark clark is not dead somewhere in the infinite realm of the universe she lives and will begin her f happy work with the angels to prepare a place tor for the faithful that are to follow she died in while repairing the root roof of his house was born bom at hemstead essex england It october Oc toler 23 1835 at an early age he went to london and entered into the service of a tl th asmith working his way up from errand boy to first hand th in the large establishment in which te be worked while in london he made the acquaintance of father kemp so well known to the early london saints bv whom he was converted to the faith and was baptized the of june 1852 by edward C brand he married ann rushen kushen keyes in 1855 who embarked with him on the ship horizon for america in 1866 1856 and his first son william J reed horizon was born on the good ship off the banks of newfoundland found land on june of that year I 1 and was named after captain reed and the ship he commanded on reaching boston he concluded to remain there and work for the necessary means to prosecute pro 0 te his journey to U utah tah here I 1 apted a position aa as I 1 I 1 and ta in ato to utah arriving in salt la lake sy september of that abat year he moved to american fork utah county in 1862 where he followed his trade of tinsmith tor for some time at american pork fork the innate powers and executive skill in doing good unto others which has exemplified the me life of this good man commenced to babine shine forth with great luster and was acknowledged by the people residing there in electing him to official positions in their city government he was also superintendent of the american pork fork operative cooperative co mercantile institution but where his great love in blessing humanity shone the brightest at this time of his life was in the organization of the sunday school of american pork fork in this his zeal and love shone forth in such power that in a short time he won to his side a corps of teachers who catching the fire of his zeal and love for his work made the sunday school cause of american fork for many years the center of strength of that place and from which emanated the best thought and action for the promotion of the union and happiness of that ward the love and respect in which he was held by his co laborers in this great cause found voice in a beautiful testimonial presented to him by the teachers and officers of the school on his departure to fill a mission to england in 1875 during his mission in his native land he presided over the london conference and returned from there in 1877 bearing with him the love of all who came under the influence of his kind mints ministry as witnessed by the testimonials of the different organizations of the priesthood of london then existing that now adorn the walls of his home at nepal after his return from england he filled the position of bishop edward hunters agent for utah stake for which purpose he w was as ordained a bishop and served in this position several years next we find him installed as president of juab stake of zion jan 1883 and in march 1886 1986 he was on his way to new zealand to fill a mission in that far distant land where he presided for the term of three and one half years the book of mormon was translated into the maori language under his presidency and supervision in this mission again shone forth the virtues and love of this truly good man which endeared him to the hearts of the brethren and fellow servants in the mission field the love and admiration in which the deceased was then held Is best told in the language of brother amasa aldrich a co him there humble and kind to a fault his patience knew no bounds the et eternal anal sunshine of life radiated from hi his very person and the storms of adversity were dispelled by his calm and peaceful demeanor he braved the perils of sea and land he traveled through sunshine and storm to bring the heart of man to more fully know his maker in all the varied vicissitudes of itie life in that land he was ever the same he had a kind wot word d and a hearty sod bless you for every man woman and child no hardship was too difficult for him to surmount and no peril too severe to endure in the midst of affliction he never murmured or complained in him the rich and the poor had a true and devoted friend one whose friendship was warp as deep agthe ocean and as enduring as the everlasting hills returning from new zealand in september 1889 he again resumed his duties as prel president Aident of juab stake and its sabbath schools re he attended the st louis irrigation congress as a delegate from utah and subsequently represented utah in all the irrigation conventions held to date also served es delegate to the Trans mississippi commercial congress of 1895 he leaves a large family to mourn his loss consisting of three wives by whom he had twenty two children eighteen of whom are living and forty two grandchildren thirty three of whom are living his funeral services were held at nepal october the tabernacle was beautifully draped in white by the young ladies of the mutual improve 1 ment association and was crowded to overflowing on the stand were prest dents wilford woodruff george Q a cannon and joseph F smith apostles teasdale and lund elders john D T 3 mcallister
